Sir, do you think it could be allergies?
"I've got the sinus (yes, singular) again doc!" Why is the suggestion that this "sinus infection" is really just allergies almost fightin' words? My area is notoriously bad for seasonal allergies but to ask most of my patients to try allergy medicine feels like I'm selling ice cubes to an Eskimo. Mr X, I've seen you every May for the last 5 years for this same thing. You got a Zpack from the immediate care 3 weeks ago and are still no better. Have you tried Zyrtec, Claritin, Flonase, etc?... Sir, do you think it could be allergies? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Going back to serve home country
Hi everyone, I am an international pre-medical student doing undergraduate here in the states. Now I am applying to medical school and in my essay, I had a line saying I wanted to go back to contribute to the change of medicine in my home country. My pre-med advisor pointed out this could be risky since medical school here are more willing to train students who stay here. What would be the best way to do about it? Any input is appreciated! Possible CF (input please)
Hello all. I am a 20 year old male, and was recently tested via sweat test for CF. I received the call five days ago that I did not have CF due to the results, but I am not fully confident (as online research has led me to discover that in some, albeit very few, cases, the sweat test may produce normal results despite the patient having CF). Here's why I am not fully confident: 1) I was diagnosed with asthma at a young age--however, this asthma is so mild that it has a negligible impact on my life as of now. I need to take two puffs of my albuterol inhaler MAYBE once a week, if not less than that. I do not usually need i...

momma's intuition
hi all! i'm sure you have a lot of concerned momma's on here asking questions about their babies symptoms. sorry to be another one, but i need some feedback... my son is 20 months old and has had recurrent bouts of wheezing and coughing since the age of 5 months. we have had 2 ER visits and 1 hospital stay (for the flu) last february. at that time a chest x-ray was performed which was read as "bronchiectasis". a follow up scan over a month later once he had recovered from the flu was unchanged. i am a physician assistant and know that bronchiectasis is not a normal or incidental finding. based off of my own res...

Allergies with low IGE
My scratch are positive for a large number of allergies, but my bloodwork shows my IGE level is very low. My daughter has the same allergy and blood test results. My sinus CT scan shows lots of mucus from allergies too. So does anyone else have this? I have been reading about non-iGE mediated allergies and that they are treated with mast cell stabilizers such as Zyrtec and Chromolyn Sodium. I found Nasalcrom nose sprey over the counter with Chromolyn Sodium as the active ingredient. I tried the Nasalcrom nose spray and Zyrtec and they seem to be working. I am not a medical person, so if anyone has experience with th...
