Disease and toxicity outcomes for a modern cohort of patients with squamous cell carcinoma of cutaneous origin involving the parotid gland: Comparison of volumetric modulated arc therapy and pencil beam scanning proton therapy
CONCLUSIONS: Cutaneous SCC involving the parotid can be an aggressive clinical entity despite modern multimodal therapy. PBT offers significantly lower dose to organs at risk compared to VMAT, which seemingly yields diminished acute toxicities.PMID:38309587 | DOI:10.1016/j.radonc.2024.110112 (Source: Radiotherapy and Oncology : journal of the European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology)

Cost-effectiveness of weekly adaptive radiotherapy versus standard IMRT in head and neck cancer alongside the ARTIX trial
Radiation therapy is a standard treatment for patients with locally advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck [1,2]. Among the existing radiotherapy techniques, intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) is the recommended treatment [3]. Indeed, this technique makes it possible to reduce the doses of radiation administered to the parotid glands at the planning stage and thus to reduce xerostomia in these patients [4 –6]. The parotid glands are the major tissues responsible for salivary output, contributing up to 70% of the salivary flow [7]. (Source: Radiotherapy and Oncology)

Relationship between vitamin B12, iron, folic acid, homocystein and vitamin D3 serum levels in orofacial sicca and/or Sj ögren's syndrome in a Hungarian patient population
Orv Hetil. 2024 Jan 28;165(4):147-154. doi: 10.1556/650.2024.32951.

Chewing Gum May Alleviate Degree of Thirst in Patients on Hemodialysis
Conclusions: Chewing gum may alleviate the feeling of thirst but may not affect the amount of saliva and IDWG in patients on HD. Therefore, we suggest that chewing gum may be a useful approach to improve dry mouth and thirst in patients on HD.PMID:38276036 | PMC:PMC10817533 | DOI:10.3390/medicina60010002 (Source: Medicina (Kaunas))
