Exploring the molecular mechanisms and shared gene signatures between celiac disease and ulcerative colitis based on bulk RNA and single-cell sequencing: Experimental verification
In conclusion, our study elucidated that abnormal immune response could be the common pathogenesis of UC and CeD, and REG4 might be a key potential biomarker and therapeutic target for the comorbidity of these two diseases.PMID:38615385 | DOI:10.1016/j.intimp.2024.112059 (Source: International Immunopharmacology)

Transcriptional patterns of human retinal pigment epithelial cells under protracted high glucose
CONCLUSION: In this study, multiple genes were identified as crucial in the pathological process of RPE under protracted HG, providing potential candidates for future researches on DR. The current study highlights the importance of RPE in DR pathogenesis.PMID:38573426 | DOI:10.1007/s11033-024-09479-5 (Source: Molecular Biology Reports)

Antidepressant and anxiolytic potential of Citrus reticulata Blanco essential oil: a network pharmacology and animal model study
Conclusion:Linalool, p-cymene, α-terpinene, terpinen-4-ol, and α-terpineol cymene might be mainly contributing to CBEO’s antidepressant effect by regulating neuroactive ligand-receptor interaction, neuron projection, and receptor signaling pathway. A mixture of these compounds showed rapid antidepressant potential via intranasal administration, which was comparable to that of CBEO. The mixture also exhibited an anxiolytic effect while not seen in CBEO. (Source: Frontiers in Pharmacology)

Copy number variant risk loci for schizophrenia converge on the BDNF pathway
Conclusions: Our findings suggest that specific pathways - BDNF signaling - are critical contributors to schizophrenia risk conferred by rare CNVs. Our approach highlights the importance of not only investigating deleted or duplicated genes within pathogenic CNV loci, but also study their direct interaction partners, which may explain pleiotropic effects of CNVs on schizophrenia risk and offer a broader field for interventions.PMID:38493363 | DOI:10.1080/15622975.2024.2327027 (Source: The World Journal of Biological Psychiatry)
