Towards universal access: A review of global efforts in ear and hearing care
Hear Res. 2024 Feb 11;445:108973. doi: 10.1016/j.heares.2024.108973. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHearing loss affects 1.6 billion people worldwide and disproportionately affects those in low- and middle-income countries. Despite being largely preventable or treatable, ear and hearing conditions result in significant and lifelong morbidity such as delayed language development, reduced educational attainment, and diminished social well-being. There is a need to augment prevention, early identification, treatment, and rehabilitation for these conditions. Expanded access to hearing screening, growth of the hearing health wor...

A drug prescription recommendation system based on novel DIAKID ontology and extensive semantic rules
AbstractAccording to the World Health Organization (WHO) data from 2000 to 2019, the number of people living with Diabetes Mellitus and Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is increasing rapidly. It is observed that Diabetes Mellitus increased by 70% and ranked in the top 10 among all causes of death, while the rate of those who died from CKD increased by 63% and rose from the 13th place to the 10th place. In this work, we combined the drug dose prediction model, drug-drug interaction warnings and drugs that potassium raising (K-raising) warnings to create a novel and effective ontology-based assistive prescription recommendation ...

Rev Esp Quimioter. 2024 Mar 22:moraga22mar2024. doi: 10.37201/req/023.2024. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMeningococcal meningitis (MM) and invasive meningococcal disease remain a major public health problem that generates enormous public alarm. It is caused by Neisseria meningitidis, a Gram-negative diplococcus with an enormous capacity for acute and rapidly progressive disease, both episodic and epidemic in nature, with early diagnosis and treatment playing a major role. It occurs at any age, but is most common in children under 5 years of age followed by adolescents. Although most cases occur in healthy people, the inci...

Estimating the active and lifetime prevalence and incidence of epilepsy in Asian Countries: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Our findings highlight a high prevalence of active and lifetime epilepsy in West Asia and emphasize the necessity of implementing and formulating specific strategies to tackle the epilepsy burden in this region. Furthermore, high-quality epidemiological studies incorporating economic burdens and comorbidities associated with epilepsy in Asia are still needed.PMID:38518674 | DOI:10.1016/j.yebeh.2024.109739 (Source: Epilepsy and Behaviour)

Elucidating the changing particulate matter pollution and associated health effects in rural India during 2000-2019
Environ Pollut. 2024 Mar 20:123830. doi: 10.1016/j.envpol.2024.123830. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAtmospheric pollution is a great problem in many countries, including India, and it is generally considered as an urban issue. To fill the knowledge gap about particulate pollution and its adverse health effects in rural India for well-informed region-specific policy interventions, we present new insights on the rural pollution of India in terms of PM2.5. Here, we analyse PM2.5 pollution and its associated health burden in rural India using satellite and reanalyses data for the period 2000-2019. We observe a gradual and con...
