Approach to a cerebral hernia caused by an intratumoral hemorrhage of a cystic oligodendroglioma: a case report
This study presents a case of cerebral herniation subsequent to cystic oligodendroglioma (COD) and sudden intratumoral hemorrhage. Following initial emergency treatment and evaluation, we successfully circumvented the solid component of the tumor and proceeded with cystic puncture and external drainage to prevent the incidence of brain herniation and mitigate the severity of associated symptoms. Based on preoperative examination results, the cystic glioma was successfully resected, and the patient experienced an uneventful recovery. According to the pathological findings, the oligodendroglioma was classified as World Healt...

Metabolomic profiling of maternal plasma identifies inverse associations of acetate and urea with anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibody titers following COVID-19 vaccination during pregnancy
In conclusion, we identified different metabolic pathways that underlie the diverse humoral responses triggered by COVID-19 mRNA vaccines during pregnancy. Our data hold significant implications for refining COVID-19 vaccination approaches in expectant mothers.Key messagesAnti-SARS-CoV-2 antibody titers decline as the number of days since COVID-19 vaccination increases.Anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibody titers are inversely associated with acetate, a microbial-derived metabolite, and urea.Amino acid metabolism is significantly associated with SARS-CoV-2 antibody titers. Heterogeneity in elevated glucose and A1C as predictors of the prediabetes to diabetes transition: Framingham Heart Study, Multi-Ethnic Study on Atherosclerosis, Jackson Heart Study, and Atherosclerosis Risk In Communities
CONCLUSION: The absolute transition rate from prediabetes to diabetes significantly depends on both cohort and prediabetes definitions.RESEARCH IN CONTEXT: What is already known about this subject? The prevalence of prediabetes and the transition rate to diabetes vary significantly across different populations and are influenced by the diagnostic criteria used, such as fasting glucose levels and HbA1C percentages.Definitions of prediabetes by organizations like the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and World Health Organization (WHO) influence the estimation of diabetes transition risk.Previous studies have shown a wide ...

Involving community pharmacists in interprofessional collaboration in primary care: a systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: Collaboration involving pharmacists is mainly described in relation to cardiovascular diseases, for which patient-centered indicators are most often positive. It underscores the need for further controlled studies on pharmacist-involved interprofessional collaboration across various medical conditions to improve consensus on core outcomes measures.PMID:38561676 | PMC:PMC10983710 | DOI:10.1186/s12875-024-02326-3 (Source: Primary Care)
