Participant characteristics and reasons for non-consent to health information linkage for research: experiences from the ATHENA COVID-19 study
The linkage of primary care, hospital and other health registry data is a global goal, and a consent-based approach is often used. Understanding the attitudes of why participants take part is important, yet li... (Source: BMC Medical Informatics and Decision Making)

Satisfaction with remote consultations in primary care during COVID-19: a population survey of UK adults
CONCLUSION: These findings can inform the use and adaptation of remote consultations in primary care. Adults with lower educational levels may need additional support to improve their experience and ensure equitable care via remote consultations.PMID:38253548 | PMC:PMC10824329 | DOI:10.3399/BJGP.2023.0092 (Source: The British Journal of General Practice)

Multicentre pilot randomised control trial of a self-directed exergaming intervention for poststroke upper limb rehabilitation: research protocol
Introduction Technology-facilitated, self-directed upper limb (UL) rehabilitation, as an adjunct to conventional care, could enhance poststroke UL recovery compared with conventional care alone, without imposing additional resource burden. The proposed pilot randomised controlled trial (RCT) aims to assess whether stroke survivors will engage in self-directed UL training, explore factors associated with intervention adherence and evaluate the study design for an RCT testing the efficacy of a self-directed exer-gaming intervention for UL recovery after stroke. Methods and analysis This is a multicentre, internal pilot RCT;...

Cohort profile: Born in Wales--a birth cohort with maternity, parental and child data linkage for life course research in Wales, UK
We present the descriptive data available in the core dataset, and the future expansion plans for the database beyond its initial development stage. Participants Descriptive information from 2011 to 2023 has been gathered from the National Community Child Health Database (NCCHD) in SAIL. This comprehensive dataset comprises over 400 000 child electronic records. Additionally, survey responses about health and well-being from a cross-section of the population including 2500 parents and 30 000 primary school children have been collected for enriched personal responses and linkage to the data spine. Findings to date The ele...

La Ragione, Giovanni Leonardi, Christophe E. Sarran, Sotiris Vardoulakis, Francis Senyah, Arnoud H. M. van Vliet, Gordon Nichols Disentangling the impact of the weather on transmission of infectious diseases is crucial for health protection, preparedness and prevention. Because weather factors are co-incidental and partly correlated, we have used geography to separate out the impact of individual weather parameters on other seasonal variables using campylobacte...

Impact of mental disorders on unplanned readmissions for congestive heart failure patients: a population ‐level study
ConclusionsCHF patients who had a mental disorder diagnosis in the past 12  months are more likely to be readmitted compared with those without a mental disorder diagnosis. CHF patients with frailty and a mental disorder have the highest probability of readmission. Addressing mental health care services in CHF patient's discharge plan could potentially assist reduce unpla nned readmissions. (Source: ESC Heart Failure)

I am not going to lie; some people do not even want to talk: Co ‐design with vulnerable groups affected by child criminal exploitation
AbstractCo-production values lived experience as it promotes individuals as assets and offers insight where little is known about a problem. This paper critically considers the pragmatic approach to co-design adopted in Wales with young people and parents affected by child criminal exploitation during the COVID-19 pandemic. It suggests that combining co-design with data collection facilitated the recruitment, sensitisation and facilitation of vulnerable groups. By placing informed consent at the forefront of co-design, young people and parents decided how they wanted their voices heard. Further, combining data gathering wi...

Time off work following psychological injury among health and social care workers: a population-based retrospective cohort study in New South Wales, Australia
Conclusion There is considerable variation in the duration and burden of work disability due to psychological injury across occupational groups in the HSC sector. Findings suggest the need for occupation-specific workplace rehabilitation and psychological support to reduce the impact of psychological injury on HSC workers and improve return-to-work outcomes.
