Views and experiences of young women from a migrant or refugee background regarding the contraceptive implant in Australia
This study explored the views and experiences of young women from migrant and/or refugee backgrounds regarding the contraceptive implant and related decision-making. Interviews were conducted with 33 women, aged 15-24, living in New South Wales, Australia, who spoke a language other than English and had some experience of the implant. Three themes were developed from the data as follows: 'Finding your own path': contraception decision-making (in which participants described sex and contraception as being taboo in their community, yet still made independent contraceptive choices); Accessing 'trustworthy' contraception infor...

Cardiovascular pathology, inheritance and prognosis in a familial cohort of Loeys-Dietz type III
Loeys-Dietz syndrome (LDS) is a heritable disease that is the result of dysregulation of the transforming growth factor beta (TGF β) pathway. The pathogenic variants associated with the condition are linked to aortic aneurysms and dissections along with other cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular abnormalities. LDS type III is associated with pathogenic variants in the SMAD3 gene responsible for signally in the TGFβ pathway. Most of the current knowledge of LDS stems from studies of LDS I and II patient with limited data on large cohorts of LDS III patients. (Source: International Journal of Cardiology)

First implantable cardiac defibrillator insertions in New South Wales, 2005-2020: an analysis of linked administrative data
CONCLUSIONS: The annual number of new ICDs inserted in NSW has increased since 2005. A substantial proportion of recipients experience device-related problems that require re-admission to hospital. The potential harms of ICD insertion should be considered when assessing the likelihood of preventing fatal ventricular arrhythmia.PMID:38493353 | DOI:10.5694/mja2.52246 (Source: Medical Journal of Australia)

Outcomes of Best-Practice Guided Digital Mental Health Interventions for Youth and Young Adults with Emerging Symptoms: Part I. A Systematic Review of Socioemotional Outcomes and Recommendations
Clin Child Fam Psychol Rev. 2024 Mar 15. doi: 10.1007/s10567-024-00469-4. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTYouth-specific digital mental health interventions (DMHI) represent an emerging field of study, and aim to increase access, improve socioemotional outcomes, and, where required, support triage to targeted interventions. However, prior reviews have reported inconsistent findings on the clinical effectiveness of such interventions in young adults (12-25 years). Further, shortfalls remain for the impact of guided interventions based on the mode of delivery and the type of human support personnel (e.g., professional or peer)...
