Agreement about Availability of Alternative Treatments for Innovative Drugs Assessed by the EMA and HTA Organizations
In conclusion, although there was high overall agreement between the EMA and HTA organizations about whether alternative treatments exist, there were differences in the types of treatment considered. Parallel joint scientific consultations could inform drug developers about relevant alternative treatments to facilitate patient access to innovative drugs.PMID:38505926 | DOI:10.1002/cpt.3252 (Source: Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics)

TAT-HUM: Trajectory analysis toolkit for human movements in Python
Behav Res Methods. 2024 Mar 19. doi: 10.3758/s13428-024-02378-4. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHuman movement trajectories can reveal useful insights regarding the underlying mechanisms of human behaviors. Extracting information from movement trajectories, however, can be challenging because of their complex and dynamic nature. The current paper presents a Python toolkit developed to help users analyze and extract meaningful information from the trajectories of discrete rapid aiming movements executed by humans. This toolkit uses various open-source Python libraries, such as NumPy and SciPy, and offers a collection of comm...

Investigating Length of Stay Patterns and Its Predictors in the South Wales Trauma Network
CONCLUSION: Our finding supports prior evidence indicating elderly people are vulnerable to longer stays. Moreover, concerning the types of admission wards, patients admitted to rehabilitation wards who underwent more than 2 hospitalisations also faced an increased risk of prolonged stay. Based on these results, policymakers and healthcare providers should contemplate expanding the allocation of medical resources to this demographic to mitigate the length of stay and optimise associated healthcare costs.PMID:38505372 | PMC:PMC10949546 | DOI:10.1177/27536351241237866 (Source: Adv Data)

The perceived helpfulness and acceptability of a bespoke psychological therapy service for registered nurses experiencing psychological distress: A qualitative study
CONCLUSION: Participants attempted to live up to an idealized image of a nurse, generating self-stigmatizing beliefs that negatively affected their mental health. The psychological therapy service enabled participants to put their roles into perspective, that is, separate themselves from their role, be vulnerable, and develop confidence and adaptive coping strategies. Participants valued the minimal barriers and ease of access to support.IMPLICATIONS FOR THE PROFESSION AND/OR PATIENT CARE: The complex relationship between nurse identity and the challenges of the workplace needs to be central to nurse education. Nurses can ...

How the training pathways and capacity of rural physicians inform their scope of practice: A qualitative study examining the experiences of Australian and international medical graduates in South-East New South Wales, Australia
CONCLUSION: Doctors' scope of practice is informed by their pathways into rural practice. Australian medical graduates may not gain adequate competence during expedited training programs to confidently undertake extended clinical activities. International medical graduates, however lacked the opportunities and support, to utilise their expertise in rural practice. Complementarily utilising the expertise and commitment of both AMGs and IMGs may synergistically address workforce shortages.PMID:38504461 | DOI:10.1111/ajr.13105 (Source: The Australian Journal of Rural Health)

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1218: Contrast Clearance Analysis (CCA) to Assess Viable Tumour following Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) to Brain Metastasis in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC)
Conclusions: Our single-centre experience shows CCA to be feasible and useful in patients with NSCLC in cases of diagnostic uncertainty in MRI. It has helped guide treatment in the majority of patients, with subsequent outcomes following the implementation of the treatment based on the results, suggesting correct classification. Recommendations from our experience of the implementation include the careful consideration of the thin rim of the rapid contrast clearance and the timing of the CCA prior to surgery for suspected brain metastasis progression. Updated population-level estimates of child restraint practices among children aged 0-12 years in Australia, 10 years after introduction of age-appropriate restraint use legislation
Conclusion The findings demonstrate high levels of appropriate restraint use among children across metropolitan Sydney approximately 10 years after introduction of legislation requiring age-appropriate restraint use until age 7, however, errors in the way restraints remain common. Implications for public health Given the negative impact incorrect use has on crash protection, continuing high rates of incorrect use may reduce effectiveness of legislative change on injury reduction. A critical discourse analysis of older women’s representation in housing and homelessness Taylah Brown, Charlotte Smedley, Jacqui Cameron Housing, Care and Support, Vol. ahead-of-print, No. ahead-of-print, pp.- Despite a significant evidence base illustrating the issue of housing insecurity and homelessness experienced by women over the age of 55 in Australia [Pawson et al., 2018; Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW), 2021b; Mission Australia 2022; Per Capita 2022], there continues to be a knowledge gap in the representation of older women in current Federal and New South Wales (NSW) State Government housing...
