Targeted ADAMTS13 Replacement Therapy for Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura
J Thromb Haemost. 2023 Dec 22:S1538-7836(23)00918-2. doi: 10.1016/j.jtha.2023.11.030. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a life-threatening thrombotic disorder that is associated with a severe deficiency (<10% activity) of ADAMTS13, the protease that cleaves von Willebrand factor. Plasma therapy is the current standard of care in managing acute episodes of TTP, which involves replacing a patient's plasma to achieve normal levels of ADAMTS13 activity. Recently, therapies aimed at replacing ADAMTS13 have been investigated as possible substitutes or add-ons to plasma therapy for cong...

We...

N-Acetyl Cysteine Prevents Arterial Thrombosis in a Dose-Dependent Manner In Vitro and in Mice
CONCLUSIONS: Both preclinical models demonstrate that NAC prevents thrombus formation in a dose-dependent manner without significantly affecting bleeding time. This work highlights a new pathway for preventing arterial thrombosis, different from antiplatelet agents, using an amino acid derivative as an antithrombotic therapeutic.PMID:38126172 | DOI:10.1161/ATVBAHA.123.319044 (Source: Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology)

Protective role of N-acetylcysteine and Sulodexide on endothelial cells exposed on patients ’ serum after SARS-CoV-2 infection
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 causes hyperinflammation and activation of coagulation cascade and, as a result, aggravates endothelial cell dysfunction. N-acetylcysteine and Sulodexide have been found to mitigate endothelial damage. The influence on coronary artery endothelial cells of serum collected after 4 ± 1 months from coronavirus infection was studied. The concentrations of serum samples of interleukin 6, von Willebrand Factor, tissue Plasminogen Activator, and Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor-1 were studied. The cultures with serum of patients after coronavirus infection were incubated with N-acety...
