Analysis of laboratory parameters before the occurrence of hepatic sinusoidal obstruction syndrome in children, adolescents, and young adults after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation
ConclusionIn summary, the laboratory parameters INR, aPTT, protein C, and ferritin were very useful to predict the occurrence of SOS. In addition, this is the first report on a significant association between SOS and high values of INR and aPTT after HSCT before SOS. (Source: Journal of Cancer Research and Clinical Oncology)

Prognostic performance of non-invasive tests for portal hypertension is comparable to that of hepatic venous pressure gradient
Non-invasive tests (NIT) for assessing the probability of clinically significant portal hypertension (CSPH) including the ANTICIPATE ±NASH models based on liver stiffness measurement (LSM), platelet count (PLT)±body mass index (BMI), and the von Willebrand factor antigen (VWF) to PLT ratio (VITRO) have fundamentally changed the management of compensated advanced chronic liver disease (cACLD). However, their prognostic utility h as not been compared head-to-head against the hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG) as the gold standard. (Source: Journal of Hepatology)

Investigating patients for bleeding disorders when most of the "usual" ones have been ruled out
Res Pract Thromb Haemost. 2023 Oct 30;7(8):102242. doi: 10.1016/j.rpth.2023.102242. eCollection 2023 Nov.ABSTRACTA State of the Art lecture titled "Investigating Patients for Bleeding Disorders When Most of the Usual Ones Have Been Ruled Out" was presented at the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis Congress in 2023. Mild to moderate bleeding disorders (MBDs) in patients in whom no diagnosis of an established disorder, such as platelet function defect, von Willebrand disease, or a coagulation factor deficiency, can be identified are classified as bleeding disorders of unknown cause (BDUCs). Prospective data ...

What can historical literature on von Willebrand disease teach  us?
Res Pract Thromb Haemost. 2023 Oct 30;7(8):102244. doi: 10.1016/j.rpth.2023.102244. eCollection 2023 Nov.ABSTRACTDr Erik von Willebrand first described a family with bleeding symptoms in a Finnish publication in 1926. A closer look at this landmark publication sheds light on some pathophysiological aspects of von Willebrand disease that may be applicable even in the current era. We attempt to relay in this article how the teachings from this original description may provide a benchmark for further research in this condition.PMID:38193051 | PMC:PMC10772893 | DOI:10.1016/j.rpth.2023.102244 (Source: Thrombosis and Haemostasis)

Decreased Angiopoietin Expression in Underactive Bladder Induced by Long-term Bladder Outlet Obstruction
CONCLUSION: In a rat model of underactive bladder caused by surgical BOO, reduced angiopoietin expression was demonstrated. This observation might underlie visceral ischemia and fibrosis associated with the procedure. The findings of this study might offer an improved understanding of the disease processes underlying BOO and facilitate selection of the appropriate time to repair the organ in this condition.PMID:38171327 | DOI:10.5213/inj.2346296.148 (Source: International Neurourology Journal)
