A common problem in infants: vitamin B < sub > 12 < /sub > deficiency
CONCLUSIONS: In our country, routine screening of VB < sub > 12 < /sub > levels in infants is not performed; however, its early diagnosis and treatment can prevent many adverse effects mainly on the central nervous system. The fact that 98% of patients were 0-2 years old indicates that its deficiency may be quite high in the young age, and routine screening of this age group for VB < sub > 12 < /sub > deficiency and further studies for prophylaxis may be needed.PMID:38204307 | DOI:10.24953/turkjped.2022.399 (Source: The Turkish Journal of Pediatrics)

An alarming health check-up: what a bloody plasma!
Ann Biol Clin (Paris). 2024 Jan 1;81(6). doi: 10.1684/abc.2023.1850. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA 35-year-old patient with a metabolic pathology was hospitalized for programmed fibroscopy under general anesthesia for investigation and management of portal hypertension. Following the operation, he showed signs of sepsis and was transferred to intensive care unit. Biological analyzes carried out and generated automaton alarms for certain parameters. A visual check of the appearance of the sample revealed an unusual color of plasma. Additional informations obtained from the clinical department did not provide any explanati...

Vitamin B12 supplementation during pregnancy for maternal and child health outcomes
CONCLUSIONS: Oral vitamin B12 supplementation during pregnancy may reduce the risk of maternal vitamin B12 deficiency and may improve maternal vitamin B12 concentrations during pregnancy or postpartum compared to placebo or no vitamin B12 supplementation, but the evidence is very uncertain. The effects of vitamin B12 supplementation on other primary outcomes assessed in this review were not reported, or were not reported in a format for inclusion in quantitative analyses. Vitamin B12 supplementation during pregnancy may improve maternal and infant vitamin B12 status, but the potential impact on longer-term clinical and fun...

Predictors of anemia in mothers and children in Uttar Pradesh, India
CONCLUSIONS: Over 70% of mothers and children with anemia had iron deficiency, needing urgent attention. However, several simultaneous predictors of hemoglobin exist, including nutrient deficiencies and inflammation. The potential of iron interventions to address anemia may be constrained unless coexisting determinants are jointly addressed.PMID:38185818 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980024000028 (Source: Public Health Nutrition)
