Suicide and suicidality in Australian Defence Force veterans: A systematic scoping review
CONCLUSIONS: Gaps were identified in relation to the relative contributions to risk from transition, the various psychosocial correlates (for example, relationships, finances, employment), pre-service factors and the extent to which these are causal or mediating in nature. A better understanding of health service utilisation would also aid in targeting preventive efforts. Future research in these areas is warranted.PMID:38650320 | DOI:10.1177/00048674241246443 (Source: The Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry)

South East Asian Nutrition Surveys (SEANUTS) II - a multi-country evaluation of nutrition and lifestyle indicators in children aged 12 years and below: Rationale and Design
CONCLUSIONS: The results will provide up-to-date insights into nutritional status and lifestyle behaviours of children in the four countries. Subsequently, these data will facilitate exploration of potential gaps in dietary intake among Southeast Asian children and enable local authorities to plan future nutrition and lifestyle intervention strategies.PMID:38639132 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980024000910 (Source: Public Health Nutrition)

Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 1788: A Comprehensive Evaluation of Dioxins and Furans Occurrence in River Sediments from a Secondary Steel Recycling Craft Village in Northern Vietnam
Truong Ngoc Minh Quang Bui This first study investigated the presence of dioxins and furans in river sediments around a craft village in Vietnam, focusing on Secondary Steel Recycling. Sediment samples were collected from various locations along the riverbed near the Da Hoi Secondary Steel Recycling village in Bac Ninh province. The analysis was conducted using a HRGC/HRMS-DFS device, detecting a total of 17 dioxin/furan isomers in all samples, with an average total concentration of 288.86 ng/kg d.w. The concentrations of dioxin/furan congeners showed minimal variation among sediment samples, ranging from 253.9 to 3...

Environmental risk assessment of selected pharmaceuticals in hospital wastewater in nothern vietnam
This study investigated the occurrence of selected pharmaceuticals in influent and effluent of wastewater treatment plants of 12 hospitals in Hanoi and 3 northern cities of Vietnam during dry and rainy seasons. In addition, environmental risk of pharmaceuticals in both hospital influents and effluents were evaluated based on risk quotients (RQs). Nine selected pharmaceutical compounds including sulfamethoxazole (SMX), naproxen (NPX), diclofenac (DCF), ibuprofen (IBU), acetaminophen (ACT), carbamazepine (CBM), iopromide (IOP), atenolol (ATN), and caffeine (CAF) were frequently detected in most influent and effluent wastewat...

Testusterol, a new sterol of the sponge species < em > Xestospongia testudinaria < /em > from Phu Quoc island, Vietnam
Nat Prod Res. 2024 Apr 11:1-9. doi: 10.1080/14786419.2024.2340757. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA new sterol, named testusterol (1), and five known compounds (2-6) were isolated from the n-hexane and dichloromethane extracts of the sponge species Xestospongia testudinaria. Their chemical structures were elucidated based on extensive spectroscopic analyses (1D, 2D NMR, ESIMS and HRESIMS) and comparison with published data. The results of in vitro test (utilizing brine shrimp Artemia salina LEACH) showed that three extracts ethanol, dichloromethane, and ethanol/water, significantly inhibited Artemia salina with LC50 values ...

Regulatory landscape and public perception for gene-edited bananas in the Southeast Asian region
Transgenic Res. 2024 Apr 10. doi: 10.1007/s11248-024-00379-9. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBanana is a premier fruit crop in many parts of the world especially Southeast Asia. The demand for banana has contributed to significant national income to primary banana producers in the SEA region such as the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia. However, the widely traded banana industry is plagued by numerous threats including pests and diseases, post-harvest issues and extreme climate vulnerability. To address these challenges, new breeding techniques such as gene editing have been explored for breeding prog...

Successful Gastrografin Vermifugation for Taenia saginata-associated Appendicitis
We report the case a Japanese man who had previously resided in Vietnam, who experienced appendicitis and the presence of segments in his stool. Gastrografin led to the expulsion of Taenia saginata, as confirmed by scolex identification. Remarkably, the appendicitis symptoms subsided after deworming. This case underscores the importance of considering cestode infections in the differential diagnosis of appendicitis, particularly for patients with relevant travel histories, and highlights the evolving challenges in global health and the significance of acquiring detailed patient histories.PMID:38599859 | DOI:10.2169/interna...
