Do Decreased Mastoid Pneumatization, Bilateral Involvement and Eustachian Tube Function Affect the Success of Type 1 Tympanoplasty?
CONCLUSION: Preoperative air-bone gap average is higher in ears with decreased mastoid pneumatization, and postoperative air-bone gap closure is higher in unilateral patients. Mastoid ventilation does not make a significant difference in the success of type 1 tympanoplasty. On the other hand, our results support that ET dysfunction can be effective in the occurrence of chronic otitis media (COM).PMID:38440578 | PMC:PMC10908985 | DOI:10.1007/s12070-023-04340-w (Source: Hand Surgery)

Survey of Wideband Acoustic Immittance Use by Clinical Audiologists
CONCLUSIONS: Several barriers to clinical adoption of WAI were identified. However, findings also provide optimism in that audiologists utilizing WAI find it more useful than standard tympanometry, and most audiologists who do not currently use WAI are open to implementing the measure in their clinical practice. We proposed steps to address the highest priority issues and increase the clinical viability of WAI.PMID:38315574 | DOI:10.1044/2023_AJA-23-00228 (Source: American Journal of Audiology)

The effect of MemoVigor 2 on recent-onset idiopathic tinnitus: a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial
Conclusion: We found that the use of MemoVigor 2 improved recent-onset tinnitus, as proved by a set of tests performed for its evaluation, including audiometric measures, specific measures of tinnitus perception and tinnitus questionnaires. Tinnitus in the placebo group improved too, but to a lesser degree.Clinical Trial Registration: isrctn.com, Identifier ISRCTN16025480 (Source: Frontiers in Pharmacology)

Comparison of Video Nasopharyngoscopy and Tympanometry in Suspected Eustachian Tube Dysfunction - A Prospective Study
AbstractObjective Tympanometry is widely used for diagnosing Eustachian tube dysfunction (ETD). However, in clinical practice, it is not uncommon to come across patients with symptoms of ETD with a normal tympanogram. Dynamic slow motion video endoscopy (DSMVE) of Eustachian tube (ET) and Eustachian tube dysfunction questionnaire-7 (ETDQ-7) are other tools to diagnose ETD. Primary aim of the study was to compare DSMVE and tympanometry in diagnosing ETD. Secondary objective was to find an association between DSMVE and ETDQ-7. It was a prospective diagnostic validity study in the department of Otorhinolaryngology at a tertia...

Do Flights Affect Hearing in Hot Air Balloon Pilots?
CONCLUSION: In HAB pilots, in whom eustachian tube dysfunction is quite common, noise and high altitude affected hearing, especially low and high frequencies, and the duration of experience was found to be associated with hearing thresholds.PMID:37992408 | DOI:10.1044/2023_AJA-23-00126 (Source: American Journal of Audiology)
