Immunosuppressive treatment results in patients with primary IgA nephropathy in Turkiye; the data from TSN-GOLD working group
CONCLUSION: CS can significantly improve remission in high-risk Turkish IgAN patients, despite the reliance on non-quantitative endpoints for favorable renal outcomes. Key predictors of remission include baseline proteinuria and specific histological markers. It is crucial to carefully weigh the risks and benefits of immunosuppressive therapy for these patients.PMID:38637275 | DOI:10.1080/0886022X.2024.2341787 (Source: Renal Failure)

β-Glucan ameliorates cisplatin-induced oxidative and histological damage in kidney and liver of rats
Biotech Histochem. 2024 Feb;99(2):92-100. doi: 10.1080/10520295.2024.2320626. Epub 2024 Mar 6.ABSTRACTWe investigated the effects of β-glucan (βg) on kidney and liver damage caused by cisplatin (CP), an antineoplastic agent widely used to treat many types of cancer, in a rat model. The side effects of CP in many tissues and organs limit its usage. βg is a natural polysaccharide that is an effective free radical scavenger. A total of 28 rats were randomly divided into four groups. Group 1 was a non-intervention control, only feed and water were given. Group 2 was administered 7 mg/kg CP in a single dose. Group 3 was admi...

Exposure to school-based tobacco prevention interventions in low-income and middle-income countries and its association with psychosocial predictors of smoking among adolescents: a pooled cross-sectional analysis of Global Youth Tobacco Survey data from 38 countries
CONCLUSION: Exposure to tobacco prevention programmes in schools is suboptimal in LMICs. Given the protective associations described in this study from school-based tobacco prevention programme exposure, it is imperative that national governments implement school-based programmes into ongoing tobacco control measures.PMID:38413149 | DOI:10.1136/bmjopen-2022-070749 (Source: Cancer Control)
