[What'sUpHIV]It was an exciting morning for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) using daily oral TDF/FTC (brand-name Truvada). In the morning plenary session, Chris Beyrer, of Johns Hopkins University and president of the International AIDS Society, spoke about HIV prevention in sex workers, gay men and other men who have sex with men. Model by NIH grantees explains why HIV prevention dosing differs by sex
(NIH/National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases) A mathematical model developed by NIH grantees predicts that women must take the antiretroviral medication Truvada daily to prevent HIV infection via vaginal sex, whereas just two doses per week can protect men from HIV infection via anal sex. FDA Updates Stribild Labeling
On August 28, 2014, FDA approved updates to the label for Stribild (elvitegravir 150 mg/cobicistat 150 mg/emtricitabine 200 mg/tenofovir 300 mg) fixed-dose combination tablets. The label was updated with efficacy, resistance, and safety data from two clinical trials; renal information; and drug interaction information.
