Phase 3 immunogenicity and safety study of a tick-borne encephalitis vaccine in healthy Japanese participants 1 year of age and older
CONCLUSIONS: TBE vaccine elicited robust immune responses in Japanese participants 1 year of age and older. The 3-dose regimen was safe and well tolerated, and findings were consistent with the known safety profile of this TBE vaccine.CLINICALTRIALS: gov: NCT04648241.PMID:38614954 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2024.03.071 (Source: Vaccine)

Prevalence of haemoparasites infection in diseased bovine and canine of Bhatinda district of Punjab, India
AbstractInfections caused by tick-borne haemoparasites pose a significant global threat to both human and animal health. Within this category, various haemoparasites species belonging to genera likeAnaplasma sp.,Babesia sp.,Ehrlichia sp.,Hepatozoon sp., andTheileria sp., are particularly concerning due to their ability to cause diseases in a wide range of hosts, including mammals, birds, and reptiles. The present cross-sectional study involving 580 animals provides annual insights into the prevalence of major haemoparasites infections in the Bathinda region of Punjab. The observed trends indicate that haemoparasites infect...

Fatal tick-borne encephalitis virus infection in Dalmatian puppy-dogs after putative vector independent transmission
Vet Q. 2024 Dec;44(1):1-7. doi: 10.1080/01652176.2024.2338385. Epub 2024 Apr 10.ABSTRACTIn a retrospective metatranscriptomics study, we identified tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) to be the causative agent for a fatal non-suppurative meningoencephalitis in a three-week-old Dalmatian puppy in Switzerland. Further investigations showed that the two other littermates with similar signs and pathological lesions were also positive for TBEV. By using an unbiased approach of combining high-throughput sequencing (HTS) and bioinformatics we were able to solve the etiology and discover an unusual case of TBEV in three young pup...

Ticks (Acari: Ixodidae) on resident and migratory wild birds in Orinoquia region, Colombia
This study provides valuable insights into the ticks associated with wild birds and their role in the dispersal of ticks and pathogens in Colombia, enhancing our understanding of tick life cycles and tick-borne disease dynamics.PMID:38599442 | DOI:10.1016/j.actatropica.2024.107210 (Source: Acta Tropica)

Antibody Seroprevalence to Spotted Fever Group Rickettsiae in Miraflores, Colombia: A Cross-Sectional Study in Humans and Dogs
Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2024 Apr 9:tpmd230593. doi: 10.4269/ajtmh.23-0593. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTick-borne disease burdens are increasing globally, impacting mostly rural and vulnerable communities. Among the most important emerging tick-borne pathogens are the Rickettsia species within the spotted fever group (SFGR) because of their genetic diversity and high lethality rate. Colombia is highly affected by SFGR despite not being reportable diseases; thus, research and clinical management are neglected. Although some departments have demonstrated high seroprevalence rates, in others, such as Boyacá Department, seroprev...
