Viruses, Vol. 16, Pages 594: Molecular and Entomological Characterization of 2023 Dengue Outbreak in Dhading District, Central Nepal
hrestha Stefan Fernandez Gathsaurie Neelika Malavige Basu Dev Pandey Takeshi Urano Kouichi Morita Mya Myat Ngwe Tun Shyam Prakash Dumre In 2023, Nepal faced its second largest dengue outbreak ever, following a record-breaking number of dengue cases in 2022, characterized by the expansion of infections into areas of higher altitudes. However, the characteristics of the 2023 circulating dengue virus (DENV) and the vector density remain poorly understood. Therefore, we performed DENV serotyping, clinical and laboratory assessment, and entomological analysis of the 2023 outbreak in central Nepal. A total of 3...

Analysis of mild and severe neonatal enterovirus infections in a Chinese neonatal tertiary center: a retrospective case-control study
ConclusionWe found significant differences between mild and severe cases of neonatal enterovirus infection with respect to complications, laboratory findings, and enterovirus serotypes. It is crucial to exercise caution when newborns exhibit symptoms of sepsis, during an enterovirus outbreak. Anemia, thrombocytopenia, abnormal liver function, and coagulation dysfunction should be monitored closely as they could indicate the presence of a severe enteroviral infection. Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1462: The Challenge for a Correct Diagnosis of Refractory Thrombocytopenia: ITP or MDS with Isolated Thrombocytopenia?
nidis Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an autoimmune disease characterized by isolated thrombocytopenia. It is diagnosed in patients with a platelet count below 100,000 per cubic millimeter in whom other causes of thrombocytopenia have been ruled out, and its diagnosis is generally one of exclusion. Clinical manifestations of patients may vary from asymptomatic disease to mild mucocutaneous or life-threatening bleeding. Glucocorticoids are used as first-line treatment for ITP, while other second-line medications, mainly thrombopoietin-receptor agonists (TPO-RA) and rituximab, are given to patients in whom ITP does not ...

Symptomatic corpus luteum hemorrhage in adolescent females with ITP
Conclusion: CLH could potentially pose a significant complication in the context of adolescent females with ITP, requiring a strong index of suspicion to direct expedient therapy. What is Known:• Immune thrombocytopenia is typically associated with minor bleeding tendency.• Corpus luteum hemorrhage is generally asymptomatic; however, in women with bleeding disorders, it has the potential to result in substantial intra-abdominal bleeding. What is New:• Corpus luteum hemorrhage leading to intra-abdominal bleeding is a potential severe complication of immune thrombocytopenia in adolescent females. Phase II Study of Osimertinib in Patients With Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor Mutations: Results From the NCI-MATCH ECOG-ACRIN (EAY131) Trial Subprotocol E
CONCLUSION: In this pretreated cohort, osimertinib did not meet the prespecified end point threshold for efficacy, but responses were seen in a neuroendocrine carcinoma with an EGFR exon 20 S768T and exon 18 G719C mutation and an epithelial carcinoma with an EGFR D770_N771insSVD mutation. Osimertinib was well tolerated and had a safety profile consistent with previous studies.PMID:38591867 | DOI:10.1200/PO.23.00454 (Source: Ann Oncol)
