Outcomes and Functional Deterioration in Hospital Admissions with Acute Hypoxemia
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with acute hypoxemia in the emergency room have a poorer functional status after hospital discharge. This decline may be of multifactorial origin.PMID:38525775 | PMC:PMC10961684 | DOI:10.3390/arm92020016 (Source: Adv Data)

Measuring teacher identity of physicians - a validation study of a questionnaire instrument
CONCLUSION: We suggest that when assessing teacher identity in physicians, all items should be constructed to allow for responses, even from physicians who are presently not actively involved in teaching. The scales benefited from categorizing items based on the continuum of teacher identity as outlined by van Lankveld et al. (2021).PMID:38525820 | DOI:10.1080/10872981.2024.2333618 (Source: Medical Education Online)

Burden of Antibiotic Resistance at Wolaita Sodo University Comprehensive Specialized Hospital
CONCLUSION: S. aureus and E. coli were found to be the most prevalent pathogenic isolates among gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, respectively. Most of the isolated pathogens showed high resistance towards the commonly prescribed antibiotic agents. The overall antibiotic resistance in this study was 57.7%, and the overall MDR prevalence was 72.2%.PMID:38525432 | PMC:PMC10960649 | DOI:10.1155/2022/7272024 (Source: Biomed Res)

Book Creation to Support English Language Learning
AbstractAs part of a large study aiming to understand how kindergarten children in Colombia used translanguaging during independent play, Paula (the teacher) along with Dr. Moses (lead researcher) co-designed a 6-week play-based intervention that included a variety of learning experiences such as partner reading, small-group reading, and supported play, among others. In this guide, we describe the step-by-step process followed to design the children's book the students used during instruction to learn the desired language, vocabulary, and interactions. Additionally, we provide suggestions on how to create a book that fits ...

Reevaluating and Restructuring Comprehension Strategy Instruction
AbstractIn the face of arguments that knowledge is the key to reading comprehension, we examined the evidence for comprehension strategies instruction. Since the National Reading Panel Report, a number of researchers have reaffirmed the value of including comprehension strategy instruction in the elementary and middle school curriculum. The latest reviews and meta-analyses indicate that teaching comprehension strategies improves children's and adolescents ’ reading comprehension. We outline what strategies should be taught, when, how, and how much. Differentiation of instruction is vital because students who struggle to ...

Best Practices for Educating in Gastroenterology Fellowship: A Primer on Instruction Vs Coaching
As the health care landscape continues to grow and change, gastroenterology training programs must be adept at accommodating change and supporting diverse interests.1 In recent years, there has been rapid evolution in endoscopic techniques and technologies in addition to increasing trends toward subspecialization within the field.1 It often is difficult for faculty to teach in ways that support diverse interests or fellows at varied points in their training.2 Although fellow education remains a core component of many physicians ’ responsibilities, opportunities for faculty development in teaching and coaching are limited...

Facts to Snacks. Evaluating the Effectiveness of Bite-Sized Animations in Teaching Palliative Care to Medical Students
CONCLUSION: All participants achieved level 1 (reaction), some achieved level 2 (learning) but most did not achieve level 3 (behaviour) of the Kirkpatrick's model. There is a need for a multimodal approach in the comprehensive teaching of palliative care in undergraduate medical training to achieve all four levels of the Kirkpatrick Model.PMID:38520168 | DOI:10.1177/10499091241240053 (Source: The American Journal of Hospice and Palliative Care)
