Please Help! Wayne State vs. Drexel (West Reading Campus)
Please help me decide as I was accepted to both off the waitlist and they are my only MD options! Wayne State Pros well established large urban city to live in rotations mostly in Detroit metro large class size, more things to do, nearby research opportunities Cons slightly higher cost for OOS reputation of poor communication from admin Drexel (West Reading Campus) Pros have their own teaching hospital for rotations 2hr drive... Albert Einstein Vs Downstate- Both Schools in Trouble
Hi all, I’m a NY resident applicant that is fortunate to have acceptances to both Albert Einstein and SUNY Downstate. However if you read the news, both schools are facing headwinds that might impact my education/degree. Downstate- Not even 2 weeks ago, it was announced they’re closing their inpatient wing of their main teaching hospital. Seems like not a lot of current staff/faculty know their future. I’m concerned this will impact my chance to go to in-house residency 4 years from now... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

OU-HCOM (OOS) vs DMU (IS)
Hi! I currently have acceptances to both of these schools and am trying to figure out which one would be the better choice. For reference, I am thinking of going into internal medicine for residency. Since I am OOS for OU-HCOM, the tuition would be similar between the two. OU-HCOM Athens Pros: Pass/fail grading Public Matches well into internal medicine Exceptional accreditation Opportunity to rotate at teaching hospitals Cons: Mandatory attendance... Concerning changes in teaching hospitals for UTRGV School of Medicine
1. The UTRGV President Guy Bailey and the UTRGV Medical School Dean Dr. Michael Hocker published this statement on October 12, 2022. UTRGV/DHR Health Affiliation Read their statement carefully, as it will have a definite impact on those of you who are considering attending medical school at UTRGV. There has apparently been a formal statement from leaders at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance (DHR) as well, but it has gone out at first to doctors with privileges at DHR and not to... Legitimate or hysterical hit piece? “Doctors Ghost Patients, Charge for Surgeries Left to Residents”
Surgeons Are Double and Triple Booking Procedures That Residents Must Perform Doctors at some of the largest US teaching hospitals are blowing the whistle on a lucrative practice they say endangers patients: Surgeons scheduling two or even three operations at virtually the same time, leaving during critical portions, then billing Medicare for work they didn’t do. www.bloomberg.com Doctors at some of the largest US teaching hospitals are blowing the whistle on a lucrative practice they say endangers patients: Surgeons scheduling two or even three ...

Do residents / fellows ever train in private practice settings?
M2 here considering dermatology. Given that dermatology is such an outpatient—and private practice—dominated specialty, do dermatology residents / fellows ever work in private practice? (i.e., rotate to a private practice for a few months during training)? Or is all residency / fellowship only at the teaching hospital sponsoring the residency? I'm just thinking it doesn't really make sense to learn non-invasive cosmetic surgery, in the hospital, when most of it is practiced in private... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Southern Illinois University (SIU) vs Rosalind Franklin University (RFU) (vs Drexel)
Hey guys, I'm currently on a waitlist for my top school, but in the meantime, I have to choose between SIU and Drexel. I've listed a few pros and cons, according to a thread on reddit with Residency Director scoring, SIU and Drexel are literally next to each other, if that matters at all (both pretty low). SIU Pros Close to home Lower tuition (~60k per year) Dedicated teaching hospital Smaller classes (argument for being easier to stand out) Cons Name not... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How long after non complicated vaginal birth is it safe to perform an open tubal ligation?
I currently work in a high volumen OB/GYN hospital. Today OB filed a complaint against one of our attendings because he will only do a tubal ligation 6 hours after birth. I usually have them wait 30 min after birth just to make sure there’s no bleeding or any funny bussiness (this is a teaching hospital After all). I took a deep on this topic but I didn’t find anything conclusive, what’s you take on this? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

LIU vs. Midwestern Uni.
I’m honestly torn… LIU: in-state for me (except tuition, but still less expensive). Great connections, close to hometown. Midwestern: Amazing teaching hospital and amazing campus, but more expensive for me than LIU. OOS for me and the cost of living around the school is also expensive. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

WashU (full tuition) vs Columbia
Please do not quote. Hi everyone! I'm deciding between acceptances and would appreciate your thoughts / suggestions. Leaning towards radiology but open to exploring other specialties. Aiming to do research in radiology / genomics. Hoping to work at a teaching hospital (ideally east coast). I do not qualify for any need-based aid. WashU Pros Full tuition scholarship (>$260,000) P/F clerkships, no AOA Stronger radiology opportunities (?) Cons Few east... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Oklahoma State VS tOSU
I am struggling to decide between Oklahoma State (my in state school) & Ohio State. Everyone says go With the cheaper option which I totally understand, however Oklahoma State is apparently struggling to keep faculty right now. I have also heard that they are at risk of losing their accreditation due to a low number of case loads coming into the teaching hospital. I am worried that even though I am saving money at Oklahoma State, I will still a large amount to attend a school that... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
