Are some gap year jobs frowned upon?
I used to work at In n out in high school and LOVED it. I applied to med school this cycle and am thinking of leaving my current job as an after school teacher for kids to work at In n out again. My current job is not as fun as it used to be. My concern is that if I were to have to reapply next year, I could have done more this year to help my app. I will also be volunteering in an ER 4 hrs/week. My ECs are okay: 1) 500 hours volunteering in hospitals (will be 200 more by matriculation) 2)... Are some gap year jobs frowned upon? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Am I being too optimistic about getting in? These forums are scaring me...
I'll try to keep this brief. I switched from pharmacy to dentistry because I finally matured and realized what I wanted in life. Horrible stats. Talking 2.7 GPA currently 110+ credits (switched majors, no degree, 23 y/o, working towards bio degree) What really messed up my GPA is my mid college career. I knew I wanted to be some health professional like my entire family, but I guess I was just dumb since foreverl. Seriously I never took a single AP class, teachers never said I would amount... Do NOT, I repeat Do NOT go into this field
I will save you 7 years of life and hundreds of thousands of dollars. Do not embark on this journey...why? there is no path that is more expensive to take that makes you 80k. Some teachers make more than podiatrists with a bachelors. Please, oh, please, this is not the career you want. Choose nursing. Choose janitorial. Anything makes more fiscal sense than this. I speak by experience. Literally everyone will take advantage of you along the way. School Residency and then your first job... Taking a Theme Too Far
Several of us have a theme in our applications. But I feel like having too strong of a theme can take you into another profession all together: If you love patient care... why not nursing? If you love research.... why not PhD? If you love service.... why not social work? If you want to solve healthcare disparities..... why not hospital administrator? If you love teaching.... why not professor/teacher? Is there such a thing as taking a theme too far? Does this become a problem for... Taking a Theme Too Far (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Caribbean medical student
Dear medical students and physicians, I'm a current Caribbean medical student who will be graduating very soon. However, it has been a very hard experience as a Caribbean medical student due to poor quality of education and significant lack of resources. I self taught myself most of the time to compensate for the deficiency in my school. For sure, I can't teach myself very well without having good teachers/ clinicians to support my learning, but I did my best. During some of my clinical... My overly informative situation of MD vs PhD!
Hey all! So I have plenty of experience in the medical field with over 3 years from employment and around 150 hours volunteering. However, lately I have been really unsure of what path I should be taking! I am extremely interested in both science and medicine (science including chemistry, biology, and physics). My wife says I should be a teacher all the time because I love teaching science so much to people and read nonfiction books for fun (I also think she is worried about me having any... Appropriate Level of Aggressiveness in Hem/Onc?
I have recently been wondering whether I went into the right field, because I often don't feel comfortable subjecting patients to fourth or fifth line therapy when I feel they would be better served with hospice. I am training in a large cancer center where 90% of my teachers push patients to the brink of death, with many to die with chemotherapy in the last 2 weeks of life. Is this an academics thing, or all of oncology thing? Maybe I should do benign heme. (Source: Student Doctor Network)
