Need Help Deciding!! Psy. D Programs
Hi everyone! So I am currently special education teacher who, for the past year, has been taking psych prerequisite courses at my local community college so apply to grad school. My original plan was Psy. D so I could practice and research and I wanted to specialize in school psych. I applied to a plethora of programs to the advisement of psychology professor and letter writer and I ended up getting into 5 out of the 8 programs (to my surprise). Most are school, one is Clinical/community... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

WAMC cgpa 3.46 sgpa 3.13, MCAT 504
Hello, I currently work as a high-school biology teacher at a title 1 school (over 95% of students are considered economically disadvantaged) and plan on applying to medical schools this coming cycle. I know my GPA is fairly low (possibly even for DO schools) but I have good experiences and hope for the best. I had financial problems during my time at college and had to work full time while taking my classes which caused me to have a lot of absences and even made me miss important exams... letters of rec as a freshmen?
I know there is a giant mega thread where letters fo red are discussed in detail but I had a particular question and it’s too late to post on that thread. So I’m a freshman and had a great relationship with my calculus teacher last semester. I want to ask for a letter of rec while their memory of me is at its peak, but i don’t have many of the things people recommend I provide the writer with yet, such as a personal statement or resume. what do you guys recommend i do? also, i’m at community... Couldn't find a clinical gap year job because of COVID, so I became a substitute teacher. Would this be a good addition to an update letter?
I genuinely tried for months to find a clinical job- MA positions, scribe positions, etc. Either nobody is hiring because of COVID or they need someone already trained because they don't have time to train you. Other certification courses take anywhere from 3 to 6 months and honestly I needed a job ASAP. There's only 8 months in my gap year left anyway. So I decided to do something I'm qualified for that pays more- educating our youth. I'm afraid this will warrant the question- "why not go... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

I will now have 9 W's on my transcript
I am going into my third year and will have 9 W's. One was an accidental W (schools fault for making me take a course that wasn't required then saying I should drop it). This was during first year. Six more W's came when I withdrew from my first University due to my seeing of how they were not good for me, the teachers were not helping me and my advisor was not for me. Now this semester, I am dropping anatomy and its lab because my teacher is being discriminatory against me. Getting mad... I will now have 9 W's on my transcript (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Medical Scribe Coming Into Work Sick
Okay everyone. As a preschool teacher, 8 often just came in to teach no matter my condition since I knew none of my students were immunocompromised. I have also never missed a day of school and always opt to just make sure I have everything I need on hand in case of emesis, etc. Now, I am working as a medical scribe and am around varying patients with varying immune statuses. I was called in early this morning to cover for another scribe. It was late notice and so I agreed to come ina... Medical Scribe Coming Into Work Sick (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Should I apply next cycle or focus on longer re-invention?
I’m a non-trad reinventing myself after a poor undergrad start and a mediocre finish. I'm determining the best allocation of my efforts / resources to push and study hard for MCAT and shooting for the 2021 cycle. Do I have any chances or do I need to re-invent more? Brief Background: 35 years young, started working as a developer at the age of 13 and eventually made my way to be a HS teacher. My goal is to be a teaching physician which I feel is the best use of my... Should I apply next cycle or focus on longer re-invention? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Class Question
Not really a WAMC post but I don’t know where to post this. So I’m doing a masters program and I need a little help finalizing a couple classes this semester. In my first semester I took physiology, cell bio, and topics in pharmacology. This semester I’m currently signed up for dental histology, biochemistry, and fundamentals of pharmacology. I feel like the teachers for the biochem class are being ridiculous and I don’t want to risk my gpa so I was thinking of switching up the biochem class... A Crisis of Trust Between U.S. Medical Education and the NBME
"At Stanford, despite a faculty with 8 Nobel laureates and extensive clinical facilities that include 5 teaching hospitals, some medical students virtually ignore the preclerkship curriculum in favor of one or more parallel curricula they create on their own. Their teachers are First Aid (https://firstaidteam.com; published by McGrawHill Education), U World (https://www.uworld.com; Dallas, Texas), Pathoma... Nontraditional interested in clinical psych
Any advice for a K-12 teacher interested in clinical psych to take psychology courses and gain research experience to decide if they might one day be interested in applying to doctorate programs? Would someone need a doctorate in clinical psych to work somewhere like a university counseling center? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

personal statement- too much information?
Hi everyone! I'm really stuck on the amount of information I should provide on my personal statement - I definitely want to talk about my experience with raising my baby cousin after my aunt passed away as well as how being a preschool teacher and working with a kiddo with Down syndrome helped shape my love and interest for OT. I'm seeing a ton of different examples of personal statements, some are way longer than others, and I don't know exactly how much I should talk about my past... personal statement- too much information?
