Human-to-Human Transmission of Andes Virus Modeled in Syrian Hamsters
Emerg Infect Dis. 2023 Oct;29(10):2159-2163. doi: 10.3201/eid2910.230544.ABSTRACTSeveral occurrences of human-to-human transmission of Andes virus, an etiological agent of hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome, are documented. Syrian hamsters consistently model human hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome, yet neither transmission nor shedding has been investigated. We demonstrate horizontal virus transmission and show that Andes virus is shed efficiently from both inoculated and contact-infected hamsters.PMID:37735788 | DOI:10.3201/eid2910.230544 (Source: Emerging Infectious Diseases)

Health of people with selected citizenships in Germany: prevalence of non-communicable diseases and associated social as well as migration-related factors
DISCUSSION: Given the importance of subjective sense of belonging to the society in Germany and self-reported experience of discrimination for the health outcomes studied, the results point to health inequalities among people with selected citizenships that may indicate mechanisms of social exclusion.PMID:37728772 | DOI:10.1007/s00103-023-03767-4 (Source: Bundesgesundheitsblatt, Gesundheitsforschung, Gesundheitsschutz)

Effect of invitation letter in language of origin on screening attendance: randomised controlled trial in BreastScreen Norway
CONCLUSIONS: No difference in attendance was observed between immigrant women invited to BreastScreen Norway in their language of origin and in Norwegian compared with Norwegian only. Several barriers to cancer screening may exist among immigrants, and translating the invitation is probably only a part of a complex explanation.TRIAL REGISTRATION: NCT04672265.CLINICALTRIALS: gov NCT04672265.PMID:37726122 | DOI:10.1136/bmj-2023-075465 (Source: Cancer Control)

Risk factors for mortality and morbidity in Syrian refugee children with penetrating abdominal firearm injuries: an 1-year experience
CONCLUSION: The penetrating abdominal trauma index and PTS were found to be effective in predicting mortality and morbidity in pediatric patients with PAFI. It is crucial in this patient group to provide appropriate transport after the first intervention is done rapidly and effectively in conflict zones.PMID:37681717 | DOI:10.14744/tjtes.2023.70658 (Source: Turkish Journal of Trauma and Emergency Surgery : TJTES)

Real-World Study on Chai-Shi-Jie-Du Granules for the Treatment of Dengue Fever and the Possible Mechanisms Based on Network Pharmacology
CONCLUSIONS: CSJD granules exhibit high potential for the treatment of dengue fever, and the therapeutic mechanisms involved could be related to regulating immunity, moderating the oxidative stress response, and the response to lipopolysaccharide.PMID:37680700 | PMC:PMC10482559 | DOI:10.1155/2023/9942842 (Source: Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine)
