Infrared spectra and structures of protonated amantadine isomers: detection of ammonium and open-cage iminium ions
This article is licensed under aCreative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported Licence.Martin Andreas Robert George, Otto Dopfer The two isomers of the pharmaceutically active AmaH+ ion identified by IR spectroscopy are the canonical ammonium isomer (I) formed by protonation at the NH2 group and a protonated bicyclic iminium ion (II) formed by ionization of Ama followed by cage opening and H addition. Amantadine extended release capsules (GOCOVRI ®) in Parkinson’s disease: a profile of its use in the USA
AbstractAmantadine extended release (ER) [GOCOVRI®], an NMDA receptor antagonist, is an important treatment option in the management of levodopa-induced dyskinesia (LID) and OFF episodes in patients with Parkinson ’s disease (PD). Taken at bedtime, amantadine ER provides low plasma levels overnight and high plasma concentrations during the waking day (i.e. delayed release). In randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase III trials in adults with PD, once-daily amantadine ER was effective in improving LID, reducing OFF time and increasing ON time without troublesome dyskinesia, compared with placebo. Control of mo...

Amantadine treatment is associated with improved consciousness in patients with non-traumatic brain injury
Conclusions Amantadine treatment is associated with improved consciousness among patients with different types of non-traumatic brain injury in this observational cohort analysis. Epileptic seizures should be considered as potential side effects and randomised controlled trials are needed to confirm these findings. (Source: Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry)

Opening of the Diamondoid Cage upon Ionization Probed by Infrared Spectra of the Amantadine Cation Solvated by Ar, N2, and H2O
Chemistry. 2022 May 25. doi: 10.1002/chem.202200577. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRadical cations of diamondoids, a fundamental class of very stable cyclic hydrocarbon molecules, play an important role in their functionalization reactions and the chemistry of the interstellar medium. Herein, we characterize the structure, energy, and intermolecular interaction of clusters of the amantadine radical cation (Ama + , 1-aminoadamantane) with solvent molecules of different interaction strength by infrared photodissociation (IRPD) spectroscopy of mass-selected Ama + L n clusters, with L=Ar ( n ≤3) and L=N 2 and H 2 O ( n =1), ...

Identification of Human Case of Avian Influenza A(H5N1) Infection, India
Emerg Infect Dis. 2022 Jun;28(6):1269-1273. doi: 10.3201/eid2806.212246.ABSTRACTA 11-year-old boy with acute myeloid leukemia was brought for treatment of severe acute respiratory infection in the National Capital Region, New Delhi, India. Avian influenza A(H5N1) infection was laboratory confirmed. Complete genome analysis indicated hemagglutinin gene clade 2.3.2.1a. We found the strain to be susceptible to amantadine and neuraminidase inhibitors.PMID:35608874 | DOI:10.3201/eid2806.212246 (Source: Emerging Infectious Diseases)
