ATSU SOMA vs. MUCOM
ATSU SOMA (Mesa, AZ)
Pros:
- Closer to home (CA)
- Early clinical exposure at community health center (CHC) in 2nd year*
- Pass fail grading system
- More established than MUCOM (~10 years old)
- Nicer area
Cons:
- Have to relocate after 1st year to CHC (Flagstaff)
- Only 10 students at each CHC for 2nd year
- Lots of traveling for 3rd year rotations because of the site I got
- Not many research opportunities
- 11 months for 1st year (starts in early July)

Atsu - Soma!
A visit to the ATSU website has solved the dilemma...the new campus in MESA will be referred to as "SOMA," the School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona. While they're probably aware that there is another osteopathic school in Arizona, I think they really like the name, and it has a nice ring to it. SOMA.
In any case, hopefully all ATSU (Mesa) discussion will be moved to this thread, now that we have its official name. Besides which, I was getting tired of seeing the "" next to...

COMPNW vs AT Still SOMA
Hi everyone,
I was wondering if you guys could provide some insight between COMP NW vs. AT Still SOMA, while both are good schools the SOMA interview is conditional since they have their seats already filled so I wonder if it's worth taking off work and going there to interview knowing the school is full... My list is as follows:
COMP NW pros:
-first acceptance (2,000 deposit paid)
-good establishment in the west coast (due to Pomona campus)
-good NON-competitive nature vibe
-in a quiet...

Waitlisted at 4 schools...
Hey guys,
I have been gone from SDN for quite a while because I have honestly just felt pretty depressed about myself and my capabilities lately. I had 5 interviews - one rejection and FOUR waitlists. Schools I am waitlisted at are: MUCOM, ACOM, UIWSOM, and ATSU-SOMA. Not a single acceptance.
At this point, I'm updating schools with any updates I have and writing letters of intent and interest. Just wondering if there are any tips out there for people who have been waitlisted and got...

Should I go to more interviews?
I have interviewed at UIWSOM and VCOM-CC. Waitlisted at UIWSOM and accepted to VVCOM-CC. I have interview invites from KCU, ATSU-SOMA, and ACOM. I will be attending the KCU interview but am wondering if I should go to the other two interviews. Anything special about ATSU-SOMA or ACOM? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Waiting on DO schools
Hi all!
I submitted my DO App's in August, and many of the secondaries in September/October. I'm still waiting on VCOM, SOMA, LECOM, and OSUCOM.
How long might I have to wait to hear anything from them?

Late Secondaries
Hello guys,
So far I have filled out 6 secondaries and have 3 left which are AT SOMA, WESTERN-POMONA, PCOM. Is it worth it to even send out the secondaries or is it a waste of money at this time? Western requires DO shadowing in order for their secondary to completed which I won't have done till the 28th so that will be the last secondary that I will be able to fill up. My stats are a 513 MCAT and 3.43 GPA with a upwards trend on the GPA. Thank you for the input. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

holding doctors accountable
I am very annoyed with other pain clinics in the area who are very lax on their prescription habits, e.g. very high MEDs (high doses of roxies, dilaudid, opana, fentanyl, methadone etc.) in a non-cancer pain setting and commonly without profound severe pathology of non-CA origin, and with other risky medications combinations (xanax, ambien, soma, etc.). Also, over and over I have noticed some of this patients to have very busy PMP (ER visits, different pharmacies, date overlaps),...

Ways to be 100% sure that a controlled substance prescription is legitimate?
I have 3 different scenarios:
Patient A has been getting hydrocodone/apap 10-325mg #150, phentermine 37.5 mg #30, promethazine /codeine syrup 473 ml, and Soma 350mg #90 every single month, with a diagnosis of "chronic pain and emphysema" for the past 3+ years, verified by her pain-clinic doctor, who writes all four scripts for her every month. She doesn't seem to have any symptoms of emphysema as her lung capacity is quite good when she shouted, screamed and threatened us for an entire 8...
