Lessons learnt from alcoholism and substance use disorders (SUDs) during the COVID-19 pandemic in India.
Substance use disorder (SUD) is a widespread non-communicable disease (NCD) with biological, social, or psychological foundations, policymakers, stakeholders, and doctors have given it less attention during the COVID-19 pandemic. On similar lines, in India, alcohol consumption and mental health problems are two major illnesses that have a significant impact on people, individually. When both come together, it adds to the burden of disease and creates a vicious cycle involving healthcare providers, consumers, and the patient itself. The correlation between alcohol and drug dependence with mental health and its associated il...

Vironix: remote screening, detection, and triage of viral respiratory illness via cloud-enabled, machine-learned APIs
Background: Covid-19 has delivered a devastating health challenge worldwide with more than 107M confirmed cases and 2.3M deaths (as of February 2021). The need for personalized, remote care tools that facilitate early detection and triage of viral illness has never been greater. To address this gap, we developed an institutional software, Vironix, that uses machine-learned (ML) prediction models to enable real-time risk stratification and decision support for return-to-work initiatives. Objectives: To develop and validate an ML, early detection and triage application that facilitates early intervention on clinically re...

Entre l'arbre et l' écorce : l'évolution de la profession de pharmacien au Québec aux XIX < sup > e < /sup > -XX < sup > e < /sup > si ècles
Can Bull Med Hist. 2021 Nov 5:e530042021. doi: 10.3138/cbmh.530-042021. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn Quebec's historiography, the history of pharmacies and pharmacists straddles the history of medicine, doctors and health, on the one side, and the history of small business and consumerism, on the other. Too much of a hybrid to fit neatly in either of those fields of study, it has largely flown under the historians' radar. This duality is nonetheless fascinating. Not only is it at the very heart of pharmacies' trajectory and evolution in Quebec, but it explicitly highlights the fact that health, medication, and consumer...

6.E. Round table: Governance and diplomacy of climate health adaptation: roles for public health community
Abstract Planetary health is the health of human civilization and the state of the natural systems on which it depends. (The Lancet commission on planetary health). Climate change puts planetary health under considerable strain. Climate health adaptation is defined as ‘designing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating strategies, policies and programs to manage the risks of climate-relevant health outcomes' (WHO 2014). This workshop focuses on the perspective of governance, focusing on three basic coordination issues. Firstly, since climate health adaptation is a relatively new issue, it has not (yet) been organised ...

IJERPH, Vol. 18, Pages 10398: Intermediary Perspectives on Total Worker Health in Small Businesses
hards The future of work will include not only more small business employment, but also a need for greater consideration of more holistic approaches to addressing worker well-being. Previous research has suggested smaller firms need external assistance to add new or improve existing workplace health and safety activities. A Total Worker Health® (TWH) approach is potentially appealing to small employers as it is intended to identify and support comprehensive practices and policies that take into account the work environment (both physical and organizational) while also addressing the personal health risks of individual...

When leaders are marketers: a duality perspective on the effect of openness to experience on marketing behaviors and the moderating role of bottom-line mentality
Curr Psychol. 2021 Sep 1:1-15. doi: 10.1007/s12144-021-02216-2. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWhile research has considered the effects of CEO and top-management team members' characteristics on strategic initiatives (e.g. marketing), less research has examined when non-executive leaders directly contribute to these initiatives. In this research, drawing from the duality framework on leader characteristics, we examine how leader openness to experience is associated with their increased engagement in marketing behaviors (e.g. recruiting new customers). Across two field studies, including an exploratory sample of small busin...
