Analyzing sales of the Korean restaurant franchise during the COVID-19 pandemic with the mixed-effects model approach
by Changro Lee, Youngmo Koo Using point-of-sales (POS) data, the sales trends of 48 member stores of a Korean restaurant franchise during the COVID-19 pandemic were analyzed. As daily sales are nested in each member store of a franchise, the hierarchical structure of POS data was fully and effectively utilized by employing a mixed-effects model. The results showed that although sales volumes in all member stores were negatively affected by the pandemic, the level of impact varied according to store location: sales at some stores were drastically reduced, while a few others even achieved a slight increase in sales durin g ...

56.3 Removing Barriers and Expanding Regional Access Through Collaborative Care in Community Pediatrics
The Collaborative Care Model (CoCM) in primary care has been shown to reduce disparities and improve access to quality mental health care. For CoCM to be effective, program developers must understand local resources and what is achievable given contextual factors present in primary care practices. To this point, a significant number of practicing pediatricians still work in small, independent practices, that operate like small businesses that face unique barriers to implementation of CoCM. Implementation of CoCM may require adaption of model elements to achieve programmatic objectives. (Source: Journal of the American Acad...

A methodology to estimate postdisaster unmet housing needs using limited data: Application to the 2017 California wildfires
This article presents a methodology to estimate postdisaster unmet housing needs that is accurate and relies only on data obtained shortly after a disaster. Data on the number of damaged buildings are combined with models for expected repair costs. Statistical models for aid distributed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Small Business Administration (SBA) are then developed and used to forecast funding provided by those agencies. With these forecasts, the unmet need to be funded by HUD is estimated. The approach can be used for multiple states and hazard types. As validation, the proposed methodolog...
