Erythema nodosum (EN) is a common dermatological eruption characterized by inflammatory nodules of the subcutaneous fat (panniculitis) on the extensor surfaces of the extremities especially the shins, thighs, and forearms. They are usually painful, nodular, bilateral and multiple. They can be found on other areas and be unilateral. They can be red, purple or blackish. They usually resolve without problems in 3-6 weeks.

Faster diagnosis of inherited and lethal nerve disease could advance search for new treatments
(Johns Hopkins Medicine) Johns Hopkins physicians report success in a small study of a modified skin biopsy that hastens the earlier diagnosis of an inherited and progressively fatal nerve disease and seems to offer a clearer view of the disorder's severity and progression. With a quicker and less invasive way to visualize the hallmark protein clumps of the rare but lethal disease -- familial transthyretin amyloidosis -- the researchers say they hope to more rapidly advance clinical trials of treatments that may slow the disease and extend patients' lives. SciBase wins FDA PMA nod for Nevisense malignant melanoma detector
Medical device company SciBase said today it won FDA pre-market approval for its Nevisense device designed for the early detection of malignant melanoma.
The Stockholm-based company’s device is indicated for use on cutaneous lesions with 1 or more clinical or historical characteristics of melanoma, for obtaining additional information when considering a biopsy, the company said.
The Nevisense device is designed to detect malignant melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer which accounts for 75% of deaths related to skin cancer, directly on the skin, SciBase said. The company touted the device as the 1st of it’...

Non-invasive test offers quick skin cancer diagnosis
