Primary synovial sarcoma of the pleura in an 18 ‑year‑old male patient: A case report
Oncol Lett. 2023 Sep 12;26(4):461. doi: 10.3892/ol.2023.14048. eCollection 2023 Oct.ABSTRACTPrimary synovial sarcoma of the pleura (PSSP) is a rare disease. The present study reported the case of a patient (male; age, 18 years) with two tumors (7.8×2.8 cm and 6.5×5.8 cm) treated with surgery and chemotherapy. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of two tumors diagnosed as PSSP, which was confirmed by immunohistochemical staining. After six months of follow-up, the symptoms of dry cough and wheezing disappeared and all of the laboratory results were within normal limits. PSSP requires clinical sus...

Treatment of Symptomatic Lymphedema in the Hand with Omental Flow-through Flap
Plast Reconstr Surg Glob Open. 2023 Aug 22;11(8):e5219. doi: 10.1097/GOX.0000000000005219. eCollection 2023 Aug.ABSTRACTVascularized lymph node transfer (VLNT) is a surgical option to improve physiologic lymphatic drainage. This technique transfers healthy vascularized lymphatic tissue from various available donor sites to the existing lymphatics of the affected area. Here, we present a successful case halting the size progression and reversing lymphedema symptoms in a patient treated with vascularized omental lymph node transfer. A 56-year-old man presented with stage III malignant sarcoma of his left medial upper arm. Tw...

Argon-helium knife cryoablation plus programmed cell death protein 1 inhibitor in the treatment of advanced soft tissue sarcomas: there is no evidence of the synergistic effects of this combination therapy
CONCLUSION: Cryoablation combined with PD-1 inhibitors in the therapy of advanced STS is safe and can effectively shrink the cryoablation-target lesion. However, there is no evidence of the synergistic effects of this combination therapy.PMID:37736543 | PMC:PMC10509548 | DOI:10.3389/fonc.2023.1185291 (Source: Cancer Control)

Activity of pazopanib in < em > EWSR1-NFATC2 < /em > translocation-associated bone sarcoma
Oncoscience. 2023 Sep 20;10:44-53. doi: 10.18632/oncoscience.587. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTPazopanib is a multi-kinase inhibitor that is currently approved for treatment of advanced renal cell carcinoma and chemotherapy-refractory soft tissue sarcoma. In this case report, we discuss the case of a patient with a EWSR1-NFATC2 fusion positive bone sarcoma who had exceptional tumor control through using pazopanib and surgery for an overall duration exceeding 5 years. We also review the literature on EWSR1-NFATC2 translocation-associated sarcomas and use of pazopanib in bone sarcomas.PMID:37736255 | PMC:PMC10511123 | DOI:10.186...

Loss of Chromosome 3q Is a Prognostic Marker in Fusion-Negative Rhabdomyosarcoma
CONCLUSION: The pathogenesis of STS including FN-RMS remains poorly understood, emphasizing the need for new therapeutic advances and adequate risk stratification. Our data demonstrate that loss of chr3q is associated with poor OS in FN-RMS, supporting it as an important tool for risk stratification.PMID:37738543 | DOI:10.1200/PO.23.00037 (Source: Ann Oncol)

Mutation Profile via Next-Generation Sequencing in Patients with Colorectal Adenocarcinoma and Its Clinicopathological Correlation
CONCLUSION: It is necessary to have a comprehensive database of genomic alterations of colorectal carcinomas to interpret mutations more accurately clinically. There are no studies on the frequency of mutations in colorectal carcinomas in the Turkish population; thus, follow-up and treatment protocols are organized following the European and American databases and guidelines. A comprehensive study of the colorectal carcinoma patients' mutation profile in the Turkish patient cohort by the next-generation sequencing method will help to provide significant therapeutic, prognostic, and predictive data and design more successfu...

Characterization and monitoring of nutritional risk and nutritional status in oncological patients admitted to an oncological surgery unit: A longitudinal study
CONCLUSION: this work reinforces the high prevalence of malnutrition in oncological patients and the need to systematically track cancer patients throughout their disease/treatment trajectory, from admission to the hospital, to the day of admission to inpatient unit, and subsequent follow-up. We also propose expedited referrals to different specialized centres in nutritional support for cancer patients from the first day of hospitalization. Assessment of patients should always be accompanied by active referral capacity to a specialized and duly trained nutritional care team that is quick, proactive, and responsive.PMID:377...
