A multicentre survey on the perception of palliative care among health professionals working in haematology
ConclusionThese results showed that healthcare professionals in haematology generally hold a favourable attitude and a high interest in integrating palliative care into their patients ’ care. The low referral rate could depend on clinical, cultural, and organisational issues. (Source: Supportive Care in Cancer)

Global burden and future trends in psoriasis epidemiology: insights from the global burden of disease study 2019 and predictions to 2030
ConclusionThis research revealed a global decline in psoriasis incidence rate from 1990 to 2019, with predictions suggesting this trend continues through 2030. Geographic disparities underscore the importance of tailored healthcare policies. (Source: Archives of Dermatological Research)

Deadly pest reaches Oregon, sparking fears for ash trees
Three years ago, forest scientists on the U.S. West Coast launched an effort to gather nearly 1 million seeds of the Oregon ash. The ecologically valuable tree, found from southern California to British Columbia in Canada, often grows along streams and in wetlands, anchoring rich ecosystems. In part, the collecting effort represented disaster insurance: The emerald ash borer, an invasive, iridescent green beetle that has wiped out ash trees throughout much of the eastern and midwestern United States, was spreading westward, and the saved seeds might one day help restore the species if the pest ever arrived. Now...

Predictors of cord blood unit cell content in a volume unrestricted large series collections: a chance for a fast and cheap multiparameter selection model
CONCLUSION: This study, conducted on a very large series of CBUs without any specific volume constraint, highlighted the prenatal and maternal factors that significantly influence the quality of the CBU collected. Specifically, it highlights that volume is not the best predictor of CD34+ CBU content; for this reason it cannot be taken into consideration alone for the analysis of the collected samples. Our final aim is to identify relevant factors, immediately available, that help to choice UCB with high CD34+ cell content, especially in simultaneous deliveries.PMID:35690786 | DOI:10.1186/s13287-022-02915-y (Source: Cell Research)

Evolving strategies for meningococcal vaccination in Europe: Overview and key determinants for current and future considerations
Pathog Glob Health. 2021 Sep 27:1-14. doi: 10.1080/20477724.2021.1972663. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTInvasive meningococcal disease (IMD) is a life-threatening, unpredictable condition. Vaccines are available against 5 of the 6 meningococcal serogroups (Men) accounting for nearly all IMD cases worldwide; conjugate monovalent MenC, quadrivalent MenACWY, and protein-based MenB vaccines are commonly used. We provide a comprehensive overview of the evolution of meningococcal vaccination strategies employed in national immunization programmes (NIPs) and their impact on IMD incidence in Europe. A more in-depth description is ...

IJERPH, Vol. 17, Pages 8839: Reopening Schools during the COVID-19 Pandemic: Overview and Rapid Systematic Review of Guidelines and Recommendations on Preventive Measures and the Management of Cases
Siliquini Given the limited evidence of school closure effectiveness in containing the pandemic and the consequences for young people, reopening schools with appropriate measures is essential. This overview aimed to describe the main measures planned for the 2020–2021 academic year within the WHO European Region. A rapid systematic review of scientific databases was also performed. The websites of the government, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Education of European Region countries were searched through 1 October for official documents about the prevention and management of suspected cases/confirmed...
