Adolescent Vaccination Strategies: Interventions to Increase Coverage.
Abstract While vaccines have decreased the burden of disease, many adolescents still remain under-immunized, particularly for human papillomavirus (HPV) and influenza. We review the most current data regarding adolescent immunizations in the United States and discuss proven strategies that work for increasing vaccination rates. Strategies that have been shown to improve rates include provider feedback, immunization information systems (or registries), and enhanced access outside of provider offices, such as school-based immunization programs. Overall, practices may want to consider multimodal quality improvement a...

Estimates of the Public Health Impact of a Pediatric Vaccination Program Using an Intranasal Tetravalent Live-Attenuated Influenza Vaccine in Belgium.
CONCLUSIONS: The model highlights the direct and indirect protection benefits when vaccinating healthy children with QLAIV in Belgium. Policies targeting only high-risk individuals or the youngest provide limited herd protection, as school-age children are important influenza vectors in the community. Utility of Octreotide in Advancing Enteral Feeds in Children with Chronic Intestinal Pseudo-Obstruction.
CONCLUSIONS: Octreotide is safe and effective in improving enteral tolerance in TPN-dependent children with CIPO and the antroduodenal manometry may be helpful in predicting octreotide response. Prospective studies are needed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of octreotide in children with CIPO. PMID: 27520652 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Pharmacokinetics and Drug Interaction of Antiepileptic Drugs in Children and Adolescents.
Abstract Selecting the most appropriate antiepileptic drug (AED) or combination of drugs for each patient and identifying the most suitable therapeutic regimen for their needs is increasingly challenging, especially among pediatric populations. In fact, the pharmacokinetics of several drugs vary widely in children with epilepsy because of age-related factors, which can influence the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination of the pharmacological agent. In addition, individual factors, such as seizure type, associated comorbidities, individual pharmacokinetics, and potential drug interactions, may cont...

Drug Dose Selection in Pediatric Obesity: Available Information for the Most Commonly Prescribed Drugs to Children.
Abstract Obesity rates continue to rise in children, and little guidance exists regarding the need for adjustment away from total body weight-based doses for those prescribing drugs to this population of children. A majority of drugs prescribed to children with obesity result in either sub-therapeutic or supra-therapeutic concentrations, placing these children at risk for treatment failure and drug toxicities. In this review, we highlight available obesity-specific pharmacokinetic and dosing information for the most frequently prescribed drugs to children in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings. We also ...
