Evaluation of hollow mesh augmentation on the biomechanical properties of the flexor tendon repaired with modified Kessler technique
ConclusionOur data have demonstrated that MK repair augmented with the centre hollow mesh suture increased failure strength without inducing increased friction. The translational potential of this articleOur study elucidates that a Tri-C augmentation designed in this study can achieve mechanical enhancements without increasing the repaired tendon friction. Hence, this novel technique has potential biological validity and clinical application.

Predictive and Prognostic Value of Selected MicroRNAs in Luminal Breast Cancer
Breast cancer (BrC) is the most frequent malignancy and the leading cause of cancer death among women worldwide. Approximately 70% of BrC are classified as luminal-like subtype, expressing the estrogen receptor. One of the most common and effective adjuvant therapies for this BrC subtype is endocrine therapy. However, its effectiveness is limited, with relapse occurring in up to 40% of patients. Because microRNAs have been associated with several mechanisms underlying endocrine resistance and sensitivity, they may serve as predictive and/or prognostic biomarkers in this setting. Hence, the main goal of this study was to in...

Evaluation of Miracle Mouthwash plus Hydrocortisone Versus Prednisolone Mouth Rinses as Prophylaxis for Everolimus‐Associated Stomatitis: A Randomized Phase II Study
Conclusion.Prophylactic use of steroid‐containing oral rinses can prevent/ameliorate mIAS in patients with MBC treated with AIE. MMW + hydrocortisone is an affordable option, as is dexamethasone oral rinse.Implications for Practice. This prospective phase‐II study showed that two steroid‐containing mouthrinses substantially reduced incidences of all‐grade and grade ≥2 stomatitis and related oral adverse events (AEs), and the number of everolimus dose‐delays and/or dose‐reduction in metastatic breast cancer (MBC) patients receiving everolimus treatment plus an aromatase inhibitor. Both oral rinses were we...

Cancers, Vol. 11, Pages 1341: Local Treatment of Breast Cancer Liver Metastasis
llian Breast cancer represents a leading cause of death worldwide. Despite the advances in systemic therapies, the prognosis for patients with breast cancer liver metastasis (BCLM) remains poor. Especially in case of failure or cessation of systemic treatments, surgical resection for BCLMs has been considered as the treatment standard despite a lack of robust evidence of benefit. However, due to the extent and location of disease and physical condition, the number of patients with BCLM who are eligible for surgery is limited. Palliative locoregional treatments of liver metastases (LM) include transarterial embolization...

Long Non-coding RNA ANRIL in the Nucleus Associates With Periostin Expression in Breast Cancer
The long non-coding RNA (LncRNA) antisense RNA in the INK4 locus (ANRIL) is overexpressed in several cancers including breast cancer. To better understand the role of ANRIL in breast cancer this study investigated where ANRIL was expressed in breast tumors using in situ hybridization by RNAscope. Additional RNAscope assays for IL6, CCL2, and POSTN were used to establish whether ANRIL correlated with increased tumor promoting cytokines. Breast tumors with ANRIL over expressed from real-time quantitative (RT-q) PCR assays were selected for analysis using RNAscope. All tumors showed ANRIL expression in malignant cells, but am...

Spectrum and prevalence of BRCA1/2 germline mutations in Pakistani breast cancer patients: results from a large comprehensive study
ConclusionsOur findings show thatBRCA1/2 mutations account for one in four cases of hereditary breast/ovarian cancer, one in five cases of male breast cancer, and one in eight cases of early-onset breast cancer in Pakistan. Our study suggests genetic testing of an extended panel of 21 recurrentBRCA1/2 mutations for appropriately selected patients and their families in Pakistan.

Comparison of the effect of rhodium citrate-associated iron oxide nanoparticles on metastatic and non-metastatic breast cancer cells
ConclusionMRC act at the nucleus, inhibiting DNA synthesis and proliferation and inducing cell death. These effects were verified in both tumor lines, but MDA-MB-231 cells seem to be more responsive to the effects of NPs. In addition, NPs may also disrupt the metastatic activity of remaining cells, by reducing their migratory capacity. Our results suggest that MRC nanoparticles are a promising nanomaterial that can provide a convenient route for tumor targeting and treatment, mainly in metastatic cells.

Correlation of hot spot to breast separation in patients treated with postlumpectomy tangent 3D-CRT using field-in-field technique and mixed photon energies
Radiotherapy to an intact breast was previously determined to have a positive correlation between breast separation measurement and hot spot dose. As breast separation measurement increased, hot spot dose increased. The purpose of this retrospective study was to determine if this correlation persisted despite current techniques including field-in-field (FiF) blocking and mixed photon energies. Radiation treatment plans on unilateral intact breasts from 90 female, early stage breast cancer patients treated with lumpectomy were analyzed.

Available and emerging molecular markers in the clinical management of breast cancer.
Authors: Giridhar KV, Liu MC Abstract Introduction: Biomarker assessment is fundamental to managing patients with invasive breast cancer. While the assessment of estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 is mandatory for all invasive breast tumors, recent advances in our understanding of tumor biology have uncovered a growing list of clinically relevant biomarkers. Areas covered: In early stage breast cancer, we focus on dynamic changes in Ki-67 during neoadjuvant endocrine therapy and multigene prognostic assays to guide adjuvant chemotherapy decisions. In advanced brea...
