Experimental study of HIFU incomplete ablation on the damage effect and prognosis of rabbit VX2 breast cancer model
CONCLUSIONS: HIFU incomplete ablation, with an 80% tumor ablation rate, induces substantial tumor damage, augments tumor cell apoptosis, and triggers an anti-tumor immune response, curtailing metastasis. These insights may underpin further investigations into the therapeutic implications of HIFU incomplete ablation.PMID:37726101 | DOI:10.1080/02656736.2023.2255760

Analysing potent biomarkers along phytochemicals for breast cancer therapy: an in silico approach
CONCLUSION: The target-ligand complex of green tea active compound Epigallocatechin gallate with NOTCH (1-4) had the potential to become potent anti-breast cancer therapeutic candidates following further research involving wet-lab experiments.PMID:37726449 | DOI:10.1007/s10549-023-07107-7

Risk Factors for Breast Cancer-Related Lymphedema: An Umbrella Review
CONCLUSIONS: The currently identified risk factors for BCRL all are innate personal trait-related factors. Future well-designed studies and robust meta-analyses are needed to explore potential associations between behavioral-, interpersonal-, and environmental-related factors and BCRL, as well as the role of genetic variations and pathophysiologic factors.PMID:37725224 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-023-14277-7

Effect of invitation letter in language of origin on screening attendance: randomised controlled trial in BreastScreen Norway
CONCLUSIONS: No difference in attendance was observed between immigrant women invited to BreastScreen Norway in their language of origin and in Norwegian compared with Norwegian only. Several barriers to cancer screening may exist among immigrants, and translating the invitation is probably only a part of a complex explanation.TRIAL REGISTRATION: NCT04672265.CLINICALTRIALS: gov NCT04672265.PMID:37726122 | DOI:10.1136/bmj-2023-075465

A Predictive Model for the Early Death of Breast Cancer With Synchronous Liver Metastases: A Population-Based Study
CONCLUSIONS: Valuable insights into the prognosis of BCLM patients were provided, and important prognostic factors for early death were identified. The developed nomogram can assist clinicians in identifying high-risk patients for early death and inform treatment decisions.PMID:37724916 | DOI:10.1177/10732748231202851

Functionalized manganese iron oxide nanoparticles: a dual potential magneto-chemotherapeutic cargo in a 3D breast cancer model
Nanoscale. 2023 Sep 19. doi: 10.1039/d3nr02816j. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLocalized heat generation from manganese iron oxide nanoparticles (MIONPs) conjugated with chemotherapeutics under the exposure of an alternating magnetic field (magneto-chemotherapy) can revolutionize targeted breast cancer therapy. On the other hand, the lack of precise control of local temperature and adequate MIONP distribution in laboratory settings using the conventional two-dimensional (2D) cellular models has limited its further translation in tumor sites. Our current study explored advanced 3D in vitro tumor models as a promising altern...

Thyroid hormone enhances estrogen-mediated proliferation and cell cycle regulatory pathways in steroid receptor-positive breast Cancer
In this report, we show TH ± E2 ± tamoxifen inhibits cell cycle control signaling, reduces apoptosis, and enhances cell proliferation, tumor growth, tamoxifen resistance, and clonal expansion. Mechanistically these changes involve numerous genes and pathways, including critical cell cycle regulatory proteins and genes identified using various molecular methods. These studies facilitate a greater mechanistic understanding of the biological and molecular impact of TH on SR+ BC.PMID:37723865 | DOI:10.1080/15384101.2023.2249702

Systematic Minigene-Based Splicing Analysis and Tentative Clinical Classification of 52 CHEK2 Splice-Site Variants
CONCLUSIONS: Incorporation of minigene read-outs into an ACMG/AMP (American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics/Association for Molecular Pathology)-based classification scheme allowed us to classify 32 CHEK2 variants (27 pathogenic/likely pathogenic and 5 likely benign). However, 20 variants (38%) remained of uncertain significance, reflecting in part the complex splicing patterns of this gene.PMID:37725924 | DOI:10.1093/clinchem/hvad125

Gene of the month: GATA3
J Clin Pathol. 2023 Sep 19:jcp-2023-209017. doi: 10.1136/jcp-2023-209017. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGATA binding protein 3 (GATA3) is a zinc-finger pioneer transcription factor involved in diverse processes. GATA3 regulates gene expression through binding nucleosomal DNA and facilitating chromatin remodelling. Post-translational modifications modulate its activity. During development, GATA3 plays a key role in cell differentiation. Mutations in GATA3 are linked to breast and bladder cancer. GATA3 expression is a feature of the luminal subtype of bladder cancer and has implications for immune status and therapeutic resp...
