Effects of glucose concentration and oxygen partial pressure on the respiratory metabolism of sheep temporomandibular joint disc cells
According to this study, the primary metabolic pathway of TMJ disc cells is glycolysis. It was concluded that hypoxic conditions and normal glucose concentrations are needed for the growth of TMJ disc cells. Glucose is necessary to ensure cell survival, extracellular matrix synthesis and mitochondrial function. Glucose deficiency may be related to disc degeneration, aging and disease mechanisms.PMID:37456155 | PMC:PMC10347106 | DOI:10.3892/etm.2023.12086

Impact of molar teeth distalization by clear aligners on temporomandibular joint: a three-dimensional study
ConclusionTreatment by sequential upper molars distalization with clear aligners does not lead to significant TMJ parameters changes in condyle and fossa spaces, dimensions, and positions.

Interspecies comparison of temporomandibular joint condylar cartilage extracellular matrix from macro to microscopy
This study shows that the TMJ condylar cartilage of different species has its own specific structure-composition-mechanics matching characteristics for their unique masticatory stress dissipation, and differences in fibril diameter and GAGs content may be the two ultimate factors influencing the differences in cartilage mechanical properties between species, while the condylar cartilage of pigs is most similar to that of humans, suggesting that pigs may be a suitable animal model for TMJ studies.PMID:37451050 | DOI:10.1016/j.jmbbm.2023.106007

Wisconsin teacher who criticized decision to ban ' Rainbowland ' performance is fired
A Wisconsin teacher who expressed frustration after her school district banned her first-graders from singing "Rainbowland" was fired Wednesday. Melissa Tempel in March tweeted that the administration had vetoed the choice for "Rainbowland," a duet by Miley Cyrus and Dolly Parton that theā€¦#wisconsin #rainbowland #melissatempel #miley #dollyparton #tempel #tmj #milwaukee #firstamendment #livinginarainbowland

Three-dimensional spatial analysis of the temporomandibular joint in adult patients with Class II division 2 malocclusion before and after orthodontic treatment: a retrospective study
To investigate changes in the three-dimensional (3D) spatial morphology of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and condyle position in adult patients with Class II division 2 malocclusion using a 3D spatial meas...

GSE236978 Ageing related deficiency of miR-708-5p in osteoarthritic cartilage lesions miRNA
In conclusion, age-related miR-708-5p deficiency increases the sensitivity to mechanical loading stress and promotes CPCs senescence like degeneration via TLR4.

Association of anatomical features of the petrotympanic fissure and presence of foramen of Huschke with otalgia and tinnitus
The petrotympanic fissure (PTF) and foramen of Huschke (FH) are anatomical structures in the temporal bone that can connect the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and the ear. The purpose of this retrospective study was to investigate the association between PTF morphology and otalgia and tinnitus, as well as the prevalence of the FH and otological symptoms, using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). CBCT images from 114 patients presenting with symptoms of a temporomandibular disorder were examined retrospectively.

Data on ultrasound therapy as an adjuvant pain control method among Indian TMDS patients
Bioinformation. 2022 Sep 30;18(9):774-779. doi: 10.6026/97320630018774. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTIt is of interest to evaluate the efficacy of ultrasound therapy as an adjuvant pain control modality in dysfunctions of the temporomandibular joint. The study comprised 20 patients with TMJ issues who had received a clinical diagnosis of temporomandibular disorders (TMDS). These patients underwent independent VAS evaluations for the intensity of pain, opening and closing of the mouth, and soreness of the muscles of mastication, including the masseter muscle, medial pterygoid muscle, lateral pterygoid muscle, and temporalis mus...

Effect of Molar Distalization on Condyle-Glenoid Fossa Relationship
CONCLUSION: There was a statistically significant increase in the superior and posterior joint spaces after molar distalization. However, this increase may not be of clinical importance. The vertical dimension has also increased.PMID:37409266 | PMC:PMC10319462 | DOI:10.1155/2023/5549951

Clinically established temporomandibular involvement in adults with juvenile idiopathic arthritis
CONCLUSION: The high prevalence of clinically established TMJ involvement in adults with JIA indicates the need for awareness of TMJ problems in adults with JIA. TMJ involvement negatively influenced AMIO and should therefore be part of the TMJ screening in adults with JIA. AMVBF seems to have less utility for TMJ screening in adult populations.PMID:37399466 | DOI:10.3899/jrheum.2023-0204
