Risk of Cardiovascular Disease in Women With and Without Breast Cancer: The Pathways Heart Study
CONCLUSION: Women with BC had increased incidence of CVD events, CVD-related mortality, and all-cause mortality compared with women without BC, and risks varied according to the history of cancer treatment received. Studies are needed to determine how women who received BC treatment should be cared for to improve cardiovascular outcomes.PMID:35385342 | DOI:10.1200/JCO.21.01736

Bringing WISDOM to Breast Cancer Care
Dr. Laura Esserman answers the door of her bright yellow Victorian home in San Francisco’s Ashbury neighborhood with a phone at her ear. She’s wrapping up one of several meetings that day with her research team at University of California, San Francisco, where she heads the Carol Franc Buck Breast Care Center. She motions me in and reseats herself at a makeshift home office desk in her living room, sandwiched between a grand piano and set of enormous windows overlooking her front yard’s flower garden. It’s her remote base of operations when she’s not seeing patients or operating at the hospita...

Aromatase inhibitors use and risk for cardiovascular disease in breast cancer patients: A population-based cohort study
CONCLUSION: Our results indicate an increased risk for ischemic heart disease and arrhythmia in patients treated for more than four years with AIs. This should be considered in the risk-benefit assessment concerning endocrine therapy.PMID:34265496 | DOI:10.1016/j.breast.2021.07.004

Oral mucosal changes induced by adjuvant endocrine therapies in breast cancer patients: clinical aspects and proposal for management
AbstractAdjuvant systemic treatments in breast cancer are indicated to reduce the risk of relapse. Their systemic side effects have been well documented and include menopausal symptoms such as impaired libido and vaginal dryness, increased risk of endometrial cancer, stroke, musculoskeletal symptoms including arthralgia and myalgia, osteopenia and fractures, skin rashes, and hypercholesterolemia. However, few articles have focused on the oral mucosal reactions related to adjuvant endocrine therapies (AETs) which clearly differ from those reported with chemotherapies or other targeted therapies used for breast cancer. AETs ...

Direct oral anticoagulants in the prevention of stroke in breast cancer patients with atrial fibrillation during adjuvant endocrine therapy: A cohort study
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a frequent comorbidity in malignant patients. Anticancer therapies complicate anticoagulant strategy. We evaluated the safety and efficacy of long-term use of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in breast cancer women.

Abstract PD4-07: Are aromatase inhibitors associated with higher myocardial infarction risk in breast cancer patients? A Medicare population study
Conclusions: The occurrence of MI is very low in this cohort (4.4%), reassuring the clinicians that the older adults with comorbidities may not be at a higher risk of MI with adjuvant endocrine therapy. However, the confidence interval for the hazard ratio of AIs vs Tamoxifen is very wide, indicating that a larger sample may be needed for the power of the study to be conclusive.Citation Format: Kamaraju S, Smith E, Shi Y, Laud P, Neuner J.
