Prevalence, Severity and Impact of Visuospatial Neglect in Geriatric Stroke Rehabilitation, a Cross-Sectional Study
Visuospatial neglect (VSN) is a common cognitive deficit of lateralized attention after stroke and can have a negative influence on patients ’ daily activities, community participation, and caregiver burden. VSN prevalence has been investigated in several mixed-age populations, but rarely in only an older population. As the population in geriatric rehabilitation (GR) is understudied and VSN may influence rehabilitation goals in GR (ret urn home), we examined the prevalence of VSN as well as associations between VSN (severity) and population characteristics and the impact of VSN on functioning, length of stay, and dischar...

Long-Term Exposure to Traffic Noise and Risk of Incident Cardiovascular Diseases: a Systematic Review and Dose-Response Meta-Analysis
AbstractWhile noise pollution from transportation has become an important public health problem, the relationships between different sources of traffic noise and cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain inconclusive. A comprehensive meta-analysis was therefore conducted to quantitatively assess the effects of long-term exposure to road traffic, railway, and aircraft noise on CVDs and relevant subtypes. We systematically retrieved PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science for articles published before April 4, 2022. Summary relative risks (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated by the fixed- or random-effects models. ...

Associations of Urban Built Environment with Cardiovascular Risks and Mortality: a Systematic Review
AbstractWith rapid urbanization, built environment has emerged as a set of modifiable factors of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risks. We conducted a systematic review to synthesize evidence on the associations of attributes of urban built environment (e.g. residential density, land use mix, greenness and walkability) with cardiovascular risk factors (e.g. hypertension and arterial stiffness) and major CVD events including mortality. A total of 63 studies, including 31 of cross-sectional design and 32 of longitudinal design conducted across 21 geographical locations and published between 2012 and 2023 were extracted for revi...

Calibration of the IQVIA Core Diabetes Model to the stroke outcomes from the SUSTAIN 6 cardiovascular outcomes trial of once-weekly semaglutide
CONCLUSIONS: The requirement for calibration to replicate the outcomes observed in SUSTAIN 6 suggests that the reductions in risk of cardiovascular complications observed with once-weekly semaglutide cannot be solely explained by differences in conventional risk factors. Accurate estimation of the risk of diabetes-related complications using methods such as calibration is important to ensure accurate cost-effectiveness analyses are conducted.PMID:37525970 | DOI:10.1080/13696998.2023.2240957

Hospital partnership and patient outcomes among postacute patients with stroke
CONCLUSIONS: A greater number of shared patients and a more concentrated referral linkage between acute and PAC providers may reduce potential adverse outcomes in PAC patients. Instead of attaining more partners, PAC policies should encourage providers to strengthen their patient-sharing relationship with their existing PAC partners.PMID:37523454 | DOI:10.37765/ajmc.2023.89401
