Case report: Heterozygous mutation in HTRA1 causing typical cerebral autosomal recessive arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy
Conclusion: This case suggests that patients carrying a heterozygous mutation in G905A may also have typical clinical features of CARASIL, which allows us to have a more comprehensive understanding of CARASIL.

Bioinformatics analysis of carotid vulnerable plaques associated with the SARS-CoV-2 Pattern
Gene. 2023 Aug 31:147754. doi: 10.1016/j.gene.2023.147754. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe rupture of carotid artery vulnerable plaque plays a critical role in ischemic stroke, and the widely spread new coronavirus in recent years plays a certain role in the development of human carotid artery vulnerable plaque, we screened out 27 differential expression genes (DEGs) of stable plaque and vulnerable plaque associated with the new coronavirus. Through the construction of the protein-protein interaction (PPI) network, the Cathepsin B (CTSB) and Niemann-Pick Disease Type 2 (NPC2) were identified as crucial expression genes, ...

Perioperative Brain Injury in Children with Aortic Arch Anomalies: A Retrospective Study of Risk Factors and Outcomes
This study examines the incidence, risk factors, and outcomes of perioperative brain injury in children undergoing aortic arch repair who had aortic arch anomalies. A total of 145 children with aortic arch anomalies in our center undergoing aortic arch repair between January 2014 and December 2022 were enrolled. There were 129 (89.0%) with coarctation of the aorta (COA) and 16 (9.7%) with interrupted aortic arch (IAA). Risk factor analysis of brain injuries was done using perioperative imaging and included symptoms of hemorrhagic stroke, arterial ischemic stroke, white matter injury, cerebral sinus venous thrombosis, and o...

Mechanosensitive Piezo1 Channel in Physiology and Pathophysiology of the Central Nervous System
Ageing Res Rev. 2023 Jul 31:102026. doi: 10.1016/j.arr.2023.102026. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSince the discovery of the mechanosensitive Piezo1 channel in 2010, there has been a significant amount of research conducted to explore its regulatory role in the physiology and pathology of various organ systems. Recently, a growing body of compelling evidence has emerged linking the activity of the mechanosensitive Piezo1 channel to health and disease of the central nervous system. However, the exact mechanisms underlying these associations remain inadequately comprehended. This review systematically summarizes the current ...

GSE179645 Screening for differentially expressed circRNAs in ischemic stroke by RNA sequencing
In this study, RNA library construction and high-throughput sequencing were performed. The DEmRNA-DElncRNA co-expression analysis showed that there were 19 DElncRNA-DEmRNA relationship pairs (including 15 DEmRNA, 3 DElncRNA) in the PCI_NR/PCI_Re and NC/PCI_Re intersection group and 993 DElncRNA-DEmRNA relationship pairs (including 74 DEmRNA, 19 DElncRNA) in the NC/ACS and ACS/PCI_NR intersection group. We selected genes in the top 10 of differential expression and those involved in the co-expression of lncRNA-mRNA for diagnostic analysis. The area under curve (AUC) of PDZK1IP1, PROK2 and LAMP3 were greater than 0.7, which ...

The novel function of bexarotene for neurological diseases
Ageing Res Rev. 2023 Jul 24:102021. doi: 10.1016/j.arr.2023.102021. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBexarotene, a retinoid X receptor (RXR) agonist, is approved by FDA to treat cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. However, it has also demonstrated promising therapeutic potential for neurological diseases such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson's disease, and particularly Alzheimer's disease(AD). In AD, bexarotene inhibits the production and aggregation of amyloid β (Aβ), activates Liver X Receptor/RXR heterodimers to increase lipidated apolipoprotein E to remove Aβ, mitigates the negative impact of Aβ, regulates neuroinf...
