Artificial Intelligence-Based Speech Analysis System for Medical Support
CONCLUSION: Patients with neurogenic bladder due to stroke experience long-term consequences, such as physical and cognitive impairments, even when they receive prompt medical attention and treatment. As chronic diseases become increasingly prevalent in our aging society, it is essential to investigate digital treatments for conditions like stroke that lead to significant sequelae. This artificial intelligence-based healthcare convergence medical device aims to provide patients with timely and safe medical care through mobile services, ultimately reducing national social costs.PMID:37401020 | PMC:PMC10325939 | DOI:10.5213/inj.2346136.068

Zero-contrast imaging for the assessment of transcatheter aortic valve implantation in candidates with renal dysfunction
CONCLUSION: The proposed contrast-free imaging protocol appears to be a promising clinical tool for pre-TAVI evaluation in patients with severe renal dysfunction.PMID:37350345 | DOI:10.1080/0886022X.2023.2224888

A nationwide cohort study comparing the effectiveness of diuretics and calcium channel blockers on top of renin-angiotensin system inhibitors on chronic kidney disease progression and mortality.
It is unknown whether initiating diuretics on top of renin-angiotensin system inhibitors (RASi) is superior to alternative antihypertensive agents such as calcium channel blockers (CCBs) in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). For this purpose, we emulated a target trial in the Swedish Renal Registry 2007-2022 that included nephrologist-referred patients with moderate-advanced CKD and treated with RASi, who initiated diuretics or CCB. Using propensity score-weighted cause-specific Cox regression, we compared risks of major adverse kidney events (MAKE; composite of kidney replacement therapy [KRT], experiencing over ...

Association of intradialytic hypertension with future cardiovascular events and mortality in hemodialysis patients: effects of ambulatory blood pressure
CONCLUSIONS: IDHTN patients had higher risk for mortality and cardiovascular outcomes but this risk is at least partly confounded by the elevated BP levels during the interdialytic period.PMID:37302385 | DOI:10.1159/000531477

Less Sodium, More Potassium, or Both: Population-wide Strategies to Prevent Hypertension
Am J Physiol Renal Physiol. 2023 Jun 1. doi: 10.1152/ajprenal.00007.2023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHypertension is among the most prevalent medical conditions globally and a major contributor to chronic kidney disease, cardiovascular disease, and death. Prevention through non-pharmacologic, population-level interventions is critically needed to halt this worldwide epidemic. However, there are ongoing debates as to where public policy efforts should focus. Recently the Salt Substitute and Stroke Study demonstrated the efficacy of substituting table salt with potassium salt to reduce the risk of stroke, major cardiovasc...
