Long-Term Outcomes of Bovine versus Porcine Mitral Valve Replacement: A Multicenter Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: In this multicenter analysis of patients undergoing bioprosthetic MVR, there was no difference in perioperative complications and risk of reoperation of long-term survival after matching.PMID:37426448 | PMC:PMC10328727 | DOI:10.1155/2023/2111843

Five-year-outcome of new-onset perioperative atrial fibrillation after left atrial appendage amputation concomitant with cardiac surgery
ConclusionPOAF is associated with a higher rate of the combined endpoint of all-cause mortality, stroke and rehospitalization. The composite endpoint in patients with LAA-amputation concomitant with OPCAB surgery developing new-onset POAF in a 5-year follow-up was not increased compared to a control cohort maintaining sinus rhythm.Graphical abstractFive-year outcome of patients with POAF and LAA-amputation;95% CI, 95% confidence interval,CPR, cardiopulmonary resuscitation,ECLS, extracorporeal life support,HR, hazard ratio,IABP, intra-aortic balloon pump,LAA, left atrial appendage,OPCAB, off-pump coronary artery bypass graf...

Ultrasound examination of the carotid artery for improved prediction of cardiovascular events and the effect of statin treatment in advanced atherosclerosis : An observational study
CONCLUSION: The prediction of cardiovascular events was better with plaque burden measurements than with the PROCAM score. Treatment with statins in subjects with advanced carotid atherosclerosis (types III-IV b findings on ultrasound) significantly improved the prognosis in a nonrandomized observational study.PMID:37402837 | DOI:10.1007/s00059-023-05197-z

Novel concept of less invasive concomitant surgical aortic valve replacement and coronary artery bypass grafting avoiding full median sternotomy
AbstractIn the last decades, minimally invasive procedures have been developed in the therapy of aortic valve disorders. Recently, a novel concept of minimally invasive coronary revascularization in multivessel disease via left anterior mini-thoracotomy demonstrated promising results. Full median sternotomy, as a very invasive procedure, is the standard approach in concomitant surgical aortic valve replacement (sAVR) and coronary bypass grafting (CABG). The aim of our study was to show that the combination of minimal invasive aortic valve replacement via upper mini-sternotomy and coronary artery bypass grafting via left an...
