Edoxaban versus placebo, aspirin, or aspirin plus clopidogrel for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation. An indirect comparison analysis.
In conclusion, edoxaban is likely to provide even better protection from stroke and ICH than placebo, aspirin alone, or aspirin plus clopidogrel in both clinical trial populations and unselected community populations. Adequacy of preadmission oral anticoagulation with vitamin K antagonists and ischemic stroke severity and outcome in patients with atrial fibrillation
In conclusion, optimally anticoagulated patients with AF have more favorable functional outcome after stroke and a trend for less severe stroke whereas patients with subtherapeutic anticoagulation have similar stroke severity and outcome with those on no treatment.

Abstract Little is known about the risk of stroke associated with left atrial enlargement in patients in sinus rhythm, and whether such patients may have an unmet need for thromboprophylaxis. In this systematic review we summarise the existing evidence concerning left atrial size and risk of stroke in patients in sinus rhythm. Nine cohort studies were identified, analysing a total of 67,875 participants and 3,093 stroke outcomes. β(S) globin gene haplotype and the stroke risk among Egyptian children with sickle cell disease.

A Genetic Variant in GOLGB1 Affects Golgi Function and Stroke Risk in Patients with Sickle Cell Disease
Conclusions: Our study has shown that a coding variant in GOLGB1, identified as protective against risk of stroke in patients with SCD, has significant effects on Golgi function in SCD samples. We observed that having the GOLGB1 Y1212C variant resulted in more compact and less fragmented Golgi apparatus. Proteomic analysis showed that SCD patients with the GOLGB1 variant also had significantly lower levels of proteins involved in platelet activation and Golgi trafficking. The association between orthostatic hypotension and cognition and stroke: a meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies.

Adverse consequences of immediate thrombolysis-related complications: a multi-centre registry-based cohort study of acute stroke
In conclusion, the risk of nosocomial infections, worsening of stroke severity, longer HASU stay, disability and death is increased following immediate TRC. The management of patients following immediate TRC is more complex than previously thought and such complexity needs to be considere d when planning an increased thrombolysis service.
