Stroke Severity Is a Crucial Predictor of Outcome: An International Prospective Validation Study Stroke
Conclusions In this prospective pilot study, the baseline NIHSS score was essential for prediction of acute ischemic stroke outcomes, followed by age; whereas traditional comorbidity index contributed little to the overall model. Future studies of stroke outcomes between different care systems will benefit from including a baseline NIHSS score.

Survivor gives us a lens into regional systems of care for acute ischemic stroke in North Dakota
I just got back from the North Dakota Mission: Lifeline STEMI and Acute Stroke Conference in Bismark, ND. I had a great time and I learned a lot. I often get asked to speak in various venues about acute STEMI and 12-lead ECG interpretation, but for this conference they wanted me to talk mostly about stroke. Conclusions: Using a learning collaborative model to implement strategies to reduce DTN times among 15 PSCs in Chicago, we observed major improvements within a few months. Regional collaboration and best practices sharing should be a model for rapid and sustainable system-wide quality improvement.

Regional Learning Collaboratives Produce Rapid and Sustainable Improvements in Stroke Thrombolysis Times Original Articles
Conclusions— Using a learning collaborative model at Chicago’s 15 primary stroke centers, we observed major reductions in DTN times within 1 quarter of implementation. Regional collaboration and best practices sharing should be a model for rapid and sustainable system-wide quality improvement.

Abstract 267: Improving Inpatient Stroke Care by Implementing Stroke Units Across Health Systems Using an Improvement Collaborative Approach Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusions: This inter-provincial Quality Improvement Collaborative was successful in implementing and improving stroke units, and in improving best practice care of inpatient stroke patients. Critical success factors include the engagement of faculty from high-performing centers even if they exist outside the jurisdiction where improvement is sought, and the use of the 7-step framework for implementing stroke units.

Predictive Accuracy of Stroke Risk Prediction Models Across Black and White Race, Sex, and Age Groups
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: In this analysis of Black and White individuals without stroke or transient ischemic attack among 4 US cohorts, existing stroke-specific risk prediction models and novel machine learning techniques did not significantly improve discriminative accuracy for new-onset stroke compared with the pooled cohort equations, and the REGARDS self-report model had the best calibration.
