Morphological and Whole-Word Semantic Processing Are Distinct: Event Related Potentials Evidence From Spoken Word Recognition in Chinese
In conclusion, the present study provides electrophysiological evidence of the dissociation of morphological and whole-word semantic processing in Chinese spoken word processing. The results identified a central-anterior morphological N400 effect when morphemic meaning conflicts with whole-word semantics, in addition to a classic semantic N400 effect with significantly reduced amplitude in central-parietal areas. Temporal information processing as a basis for auditory comprehension: clinical evidence from aphasic patients.
CONCLUSIONS & IMPLICATIONS: These results provide further clinical evidence supporting the thesis that TIP constitutes the core process incorporated in both language and attentional resources. Learned helplessness in doctors with dyslexia: Time for a change in discourse?
Dyslexia may be defined as a “learning difficulty that specifically impairs a person's ability to read … despite having normal intelligence” (National institute of neurological disorders and stroke, 2011; Dyslexia International, n.d.). It is a Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD), which has an estimated international preva lence of 10% (Dyslexia International, n.d.; Wray et al., 2012). Within the United Kingdom (UK), it is protected by the Equality Act of 2010 and, therefore, employers are required to make reasonable adjustments to enable individuals with dyslexia to reach their full potential within their jobs (Great Britain, 2010).

This study examined the role of visual statistical learning in reading and writing and its relationship to orthographic awareness in Hong Kong Chinese children with and without developmental dyslexia.
