Na ïve bayes classifier assisted automated detection of cerebral microbleeds in SWI brain images
Biochem Cell Biol. 2023 Aug 28. doi: 10.1139/bcb-2023-0156. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCerebral Microbleeds (CMBs) in the brain are the essential indicators of critical brain disorders such as dementia and ischemic stroke. Generally, CMBs are detected manually by experts which is an exhaustive task with limited productivity. Since, CMBs have complex morphological nature, so manual detection is prone to errors. This paper presents a machine learning-based automated Cerebral Microbleeds detection technique in the brain SWI scans based on statistical feature extraction and classification. The proposed method consists of th...

A Novel Neurorehabilitation Prognosis Prediction Modeling on Separated Left-Right Hemiplegia Based on Brain-Computer Interfaces Assisted Rehabilitation
It is essential for neuroscience and clinic to estimate the influence of neuro-intervention after brain damage. Most related studies have used Mirrored Contralesional-Ipsilesional hemispheres (MCI) methods flipping the axial neuroimaging on the x-axis in prognosis prediction. But left-right hemispheric asymmetry in the brain has become a consensus. MCI confounds the intrinsic brain asymmetry with the asymmetry caused by unilateral damage, leading to questions about the reliability of the results and difficulties in physiological explanations. We proposed the Separated Left-Right hemiplegia (SLR) method to model left and ri...

Trends in mental health inequalities for people with disability, Australia 2003 to 2020
CONCLUSION: This paper confirms that people with disability experience worse mental health than people without disability. We add to previous findings by demonstrating that disability-related inequalities in mental health have been sustained for a long period and are worsening in some subpopulations.PMID:37606227 | DOI:10.1177/00048674231193881

Transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) decreases heart rate acutely in neonatal rats
Transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) is an exciting non-invasive extension of traditional invasive cervical VNS. However, it is still unclear what vagus fibers taVNS engages and whether taVNS has measurable effects in reducing heart rate (HR) to assess parasympathetic nervous system activation. Ongoing research and clinical applications pairing VNS with activities promoting learning and stroke recovery are promising [1]. taVNS has also been used in newborns with hypoxic-ischemic (HI) brain injury and may improve their oromotor coordination during feeding [2].
