Effect of High-Dose Atorvastatin on Renal Function in Subjects With Stroke or Transient Ischemic Attack in the SPARCL Trial Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— This post hoc analysis suggests that atorvastatin treatment may improve renal function in patients with prior stroke or transient ischemic attack with and without chronic kidney disease, and that atorvastatin treatment may prevent eGFR decline in patients with stroke and diabetes mellitus. Atorvastatin Treatment Is Associated with Increased BDNF Level and Improved Functional Recovery after Atherothrombotic Stroke (S31.007)

A relationship between echolucency of carotid plaques and the consequent risk of ipsilateral ischemic stroke has been observed. An aggressive lipid-lowering therapy may increase the echogenicity of carotid plaque in patients with elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels. Effect of 20 mg/day Atorvastatin: Recurrent Stroke Survey in Chinese Ischemic Stroke Patients with Prior Intracranial Hemorrhage.
