Prognostic Significance of Blood Pressure Variability on Beat-to-Beat Monitoring After Transient Ischemic Attack and Stroke Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—Beat-to-beat BPV predicted recurrent stroke and cardiovascular events, independently of mean systolic BP and risk factors but short-term BPV on ambulatory BP monitoring did not. Beat-to-beat BPV may be a useful additional marker of cardiovascular risk.

All-cause mortality for cohabiting spouses of stroke survivors: Evidence from Swedish national registries.
CONCLUSION: Spouses of stroke survivors have higher mortality rates than a matched reference population that persist for a minimum of 5 years. Policy-makers should acknowledge and address the health status of spouses when evaluating and planning the health and social care of stroke survivors. Genome-Wide Analysis of Blood Pressure Variability and Ischemic Stroke Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— We identified a cluster of single nucleotide polymorphisms at the NLGN1 locus showing significant association with BP variability. Follow-up analyses did not support an association with risk of ischemic stroke and its subtypes.

Thrombolysis in Patients With Mild Stroke: Results From the Austrian Stroke Unit Registry Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— In our study, intravenous rt-PA treatment was beneficial for patients with mild deficit. Given the observational nature of these results, our data might serve as an incentive for future randomized controlled trials to provide a basis for optimal patient selection.

Combined Effects of Socioeconomic Position, Smoking, and Hypertension on Risk of Ischemic and Hemorrhagic Stroke Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Reducing smoking in those with low socioeconomic position and in those with hypertension could potentially reduce social inequality stroke incidence.

Sickle Cell Trait and Incident Ischemic Stroke in the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— We observed an increased risk of ischemic stroke in blacks with SCT. Further investigation of the incidence and pathophysiology of stroke in patients with SCT is warranted.

Population-Based Study of Blood Biomarkers in Prediction of Subacute Recurrent Stroke Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— In the largest study to date, we found limited predictive use for early recurrent stroke for a panel of inflammatory, thrombotic, and cell damage biomarkers.

Effects of Blood Pressure and Blood Pressure-Lowering Treatment During the First 24 Hours Among Patients in the Third International Stroke Trial of Thrombolytic Treatment for Acute Ischemic Stroke Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Among patients with ischemic stroke who are candidates for thrombolytic treatment, high baseline blood pressure and a large pressure variability during the first 24 hours may be associated with a poor prognosis, whereas a large reduction in blood pressure and the use of blood pressure–lowering treatment during the first 24 hours may be associated with a favorable prognosis. These data support the rationale for further trials of agents that lower blood pressure or reduce blood pressure variability in the acute phase of ischemic stroke. Infections and Risk of Peripartum Stroke During Delivery Admissions Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—Infections present on admission increased stroke risk during delivery admissions in women with and without hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. The results were driven by genitourinary infections and sepsis. Infections may be an underrecognized precipitant of peripartum stroke.

Effects of Blood Pressure in the Early Phase of Ischemic Stroke and Stroke Subtype on Poststroke Cognitive Impairment Clinical Sciences
This study was to investigate the impact of BP levels in the early phase of ischemic stroke and stroke subtype on PSCI.Methods—Seven hundred and ninety-six patients with acute ischemic stroke were included. Cognitive function was assessed after stroke onset using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment. Patients were divided into quintiles according to systolic BP and diastolic BP levels in the early phase. Subtype analyses were according to Trial of ORG 10172 in Acute Stroke Treatment classification (infarct cause) and Oxfordshire Community Stroke Project classification (infarct location). Results—After adjusting for multipl...
