Predictors of futile recanalization after endovascular treatment in acute ischemic stroke: a meta-analysis
Conclusion This study identified female sex, comorbidities, admission systolic blood pressure, serum glucose, occlusion site, non-bridging therapy, and post-procedural complication as predictors of futile recanalization, and also confirmed previously reported factors. Further large-scale prospective studies are needed.

Association of serum uric acid with risk of stroke in US adults: A cross-sectional study from NHANES 1999 –2020
Stroke is the second-most global death cause, only after ischemic heart disease, and third-most contributor to disability1, making it a major therapeutic challenge. More than 100 million individuals worldwide experience stroke every year, of which 795,000 cases are in the United States.2 Therefore, improved preventive strategies are needed; particularly, strategies targeting the modifiable risk factors of stroke, such as hypertension, hyperglycemia, and dyslipidemia, may help prevent more than approximately 90% of stroke cases.

Hypertension at time of diagnosis and long-term outcome after childhood ischemic stroke
Conclusions: HPT is prevalent in children with IS in the first 3 days after diagnosis and is associated with increased risk of death. Larger prospective studies involving systematic recording of blood pressure are required to delineate the impact of HPT on risk of death or disability.

Elevated thyroid autoantibodies and intracranial stenosis in stroke at an early age
ConclusionsThyroid autoantibodies may be associated with the presence of intracranial large artery stenosis in young stroke patients, potentially providing insight on immune pathogenesis of intracranial large artery stenosis.

Predictors of Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome in Ischemic Stroke Undergoing Systemic Thrombolysis with Intravenous Tissue Plasminogen Activator
Conclusions: In our sample of IV tPA-treated AIS patients, clinical and laboratory characteristics available on presentation were able to identify patients likely to develop SIRS during their acute hospitalization. Validation is required in other populations. If validated, this score could assist providers in predicting who will develop SIRS after treatment with IV tPA.

Thrombolytic Outcomes for Acute Ischemic Stroke in Patients with Primary Brain Tumors in the United States (P4.220)
Conclusions: Thrombolytic therapy is an independent predictor of ICH in patients with primary brain tumors. Comment: Does L-thyroxine prevent or cause stroke in hypothyroidism?
The association between overt hypothyroidism and atherosclerotic risk factors, especially hypertension and dyslipidemia, is clear. To date, only a few small and methodologically flawed epidemiologic studies have investigated the relationship between hypothyroidism and stroke, precluding definitive conclusions. In the current issue of Neurology®, Karch and Thomas1 present a large well-designed case-control study investigating this relationship. They compared 34,907 patients with autoimmune thyroiditis on treatment with l-thyroxine and 149,632 matched individuals without autoimmune thyroiditis from a UK primary care elec...

High Blood Pressure on Admission in Relation to Poor Outcome in Acute Ischemic Stroke with Intracranial Atherosclerotic Stenosis or Occlusion
Conclusions: Higher BP on admission was associated with an increased risk of death or disability in patients with symptomatic intracranial artery stenosis or occlusion. It is reasonable that further studies on the effects of BP lowering in acute stroke include these patients.

Risk of warfarin-associated intracerebral haemorrhage after ischaemic stroke is low and unchanged during the 2000s
Commentary on: Asberg A, Erisksson M, Henriksson KM, et al.. Warfarin-associated intracerebral hemorrhage after ischemic stroke. Stroke 2014;45:2118–20. Context Since its isolation during the early half of the 20th century from the mouldy hay responsible for ‘sweet clover disease’ in cattle, warfarin has become the most widely used oral anticoagulant.1 Indications include atrial fibrillation (AF), mechanical prosthetic valves and venous thromboembolism treatment.2 Warfarin reduces stroke risk in patients with AF by nearly two-thirds; AF accounts for 20% of ischaemic strokes, which tend to be more severe t...
