Risk factors for ischemic stroke and its subtypes in Chinese vs. Caucasians: Systematic review and meta‐analysis
ConclusionOur study showed a lower prevalence of atrial fibrillation, ischemic heart disease and hypercholesterolemia in Chinese, and mostly similar risk factor associations in Chinese and Caucasian ischemic stroke patients. Further analyses of individual patient data to allow adjustment for confounders are needed to confirm and extend these findings.

Special MRI scan could identify stroke risk in people with atrial fibrillation
Atrial fibrillation is a heart rhythm disorder that affects millions of people. It can make you feel lousy. Even worse, it can cause potentially disabling or deadly strokes. A special MRI scan may — I stress the “may” — help identify people with atrial fibrillation who are at high risk of having a stroke. This could help many people with this condition to avoid taking warfarin or other clot-preventing medications for life. A normal heartbeat starts in a cluster of cells called the pacemaker. It sits in the heart’s upper right chamber (the right atrium). These cells generate a pulse of electricity that...

Association of black race with recurrent stroke risk (s4.001)
Conclusion: Recent ischemic stroke patients of Black race almost 60[percnt] more likely to experience a recurrent stroke within 2 years than their White race counterparts, but this risk is likely mediated through several stroke risk factors. These results underscore a need to optimize and sustain control of stroke risk factors among recent Black stroke patients.Disclosure: Dr. Park has nothing to disclose. Predictive value of ABCD2 and ABCD3-I scores in TIA and minor stroke in the stroke unit setting
Conclusions: Standard ABCD2 and ABCD3-I scores are useful instruments to estimate the probability of early and 3-month stroke in TIA and minor stroke patients treated at specialized stroke units, with C, D, and I being the most important score components in this setting.

Self-Reported Stroke Risk Stratification Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—A simple self-reported questionnaire can be used to identify those at high risk for stroke better than the gold standard FSRF. This instrument can be used clinically to easily identify individuals at high risk for stroke and also scientifically to identify a subpopulation enriched for stroke risk.

Current status of acute stroke management in Korea: a report on a multicenter, comprehensive acute stroke registry
There are limited data on the utilization of diagnostics and the variation of treatments at the national level in acute stroke care. Clinical Research Center for Stroke – 5th division stroke registry aimed to describe stroke statistics and quality of care in Korea and to implement quality indicators. Clinical Research Center for Stroke – 5th division registry was established in April 2008 and covers pretreatment demographics, medical and stroke severity measures, diagnostic evaluation, hyperacute revascularization, in‐hospital management, discharge disposition, quality indicators, and long‐term functional outcomes....

Stroke Awareness Among Community Residents in Chicago (P7.135)
CONCLUSIONS:Despite significant efforts made to increase public awareness about stroke, moderate deficits still exist. Future educational programs should consider targeted outreach to younger populations who may live with stroke survivors and minority populations at higher risk for stroke. In addition, financial barriers to calling EMS should be tackled at public policy level.Disclosure: Dr. Mathew has nothing to disclose. Dr. O’Neill has nothing to disclose. Leukoaraiosis and stroke recurrence risk in patients with and without atrial fibrillation
Conclusions: Leukoaraiosis is an independent predictor of stroke recurrence in non-AF stroke patients. However, leukoaraiosis did not increase the accuracy of the CHADS2 and CHA2DS2-VASc scores to predict stroke recurrence in AF or non-AF stroke patients.

Body Mass Index and Stroke Subtype in a Young Adult Stroke Population (P7.126)
CONCLUSIONS: In our group of young adult stroke patients, we found the highest BMI in the group with intracranial atherosclerosis. Although this group represented a small number of patients, this young adult population is at increased risk for future strokes. It is important to educate them on lifestyle modifications such as weight loss and exercise in addition to the treatment of hypertension, diabetes mellitus and hyperlipidemia.Disclosure: Dr. Youn has nothing to disclose. Abstract 206: Aiming to Improve Stroke Care Continuity with Primary Care Follow-up Appointments Scheduled Prior to Hospital Discharge Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusions: Hospital performance with scheduling primary care follow-up appointments improved significantly; however, only 1 in 4 patients had an appointment scheduled prior to discharge. Case study analysis of missed opportunities may help identify barriers and facilitators associated with access, availability, and awareness that can be addressed in future improvement cycles.
