Hyponatremia in the Prognosis of Acute Ischemic Stroke
Background: Hyponatremia is a risk factor for stroke and cardiovascular disease. Even mild hyponatremia is associated with increased 30-day mortality after myocardial infarction, and it has recently shown to increase the 3-year mortality after a stroke. In this work, we investigated both acute and chronic clinical outcomes after a stroke in hyponatremic patients.Methods: We reviewed all patients admitted between 2004 and 2011 with the diagnosis of acute ischemic stroke. Abstract 7: Risk of Intracranial Hemorrhage Among Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients Receiving Prior Antiplatelet Therapy and Treated with Intravenous Tissue Plasminogen Activator Session Title: Concurrent I Session B: Oral Abstracts on Stroke Topics
Conclusion: This study represents the largest clinical experience of the safety of thrombolysis in patients on prior antiplatelet therapy. Despite a higher incidence of sICH, the absolute excess risk appears small (0.67%). These findings support current guideline recommendations regarding use of intravenous tPA in patients on antiplatelet therapy with careful weighing of potential risk and benefit.

Association of Hemoglobin A1c and Baseline Ischemic Stroke Severity: A Population-Based Study (P1.187)
Conclusions: We found that elevated HbA1c was associated with decreased stroke severity at presentation. However, this effect is mediated by the history of DM rather than a specific dose-effect of glycemic control. Increased risk of stroke in patients with chronic kidney disease after recurrent hypoglycemia
Conclusions: CKD was associated with a higher risk of stroke and mortality in patients with hypoglycemia. Recurrent hypoglycemia considerably increased the risk of stroke and overall mortality in patients with CKD regardless of whether they had diabetes. These results suggest that hypoglycemia has a crucial role in stroke and death in patients with CKD.

Systolic and Diastolic Blood Pressure Changes in Relation With Myocardial Infarction and Stroke in Patients With Coronary Artery Disease Clinical Trials
In conclusion, in patients with coronary artery disease and initially free from congestive heart failure, a BP reduction from baseline over the examined BP range had little effect on the risk of MI and predicted a lower risk of stroke. An increase in systolic BP from baseline increased the risk of stroke and MI. The relationships of BP with risk were much steeper for stroke than for MI. A treatment-induced BP reduction over the explored range seems to be safe in patients with coronary artery disease. Clinical Trial Registration— URL: http://www.clinicaltrials.gov. Rates of Ischemic Stroke During Warfarin Treatment for Atrial Fibrillation Brief Reports
Conclusions— In a large cohort of older patients with atrial fibrillation, we observed the highest rate of ischemic stroke in the first 30 days after warfarin initiation. Although causation cannot be established given the observational nature of this study, our findings highlight the need for future research in this population.

Conclusions— Insular cortex involvement, higher admission high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T, older age, hypertension, and longer monitoring are associated with new detection of AF during in-hospital ECG monitoring. Patients with higher high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T or insular cortex involvement may be candidates for prolonged ECG monitoring.

Deiodinases, organic anion transporter polypeptide polymorphisms and symptoms of anxiety and depression after ischemic stroke
Mental disorders, such as anxiety and depression, are common after stroke. It was reported, that post-stroke anxiety cumulative incidence reached 57% within the first ten years after stroke was experienced.1 This mental health problem after stroke leads to impaired quality of life1 and poorer activity of daily living.2 Recent meta-analysis established, that the risk of stroke in a person with symptoms of anxiety is even higher compared to the risk of coronary heart disease or heart failure.3 Moreover, anxiety disorder comorbid with symptoms of depression after stroke was associated with increased lethal outcomes.
