Silent Myocardial Infarction: A Case Report
We present a case of a 59-year-old overweight woman with prediabetes, primary hypertension, and hypercholesterolemia who presented for herpes zoster (HZ) follow-up; she reported having skipped heartbeats and heart rate fluctuations during the review of systems. On further workup, ECG revealed low voltage QRS complexes, flat QRS complexes, flat T waves, and pathological Q waves, suggesting the diagnosis of SMI. Based on the identified risk factors, including high BMI, prediabetes, primary hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, HZ, and newly diagnosed SMI, the patient was advised to continue with lisinopril 20 mg daily, prescri...

DL-3-n-butylphthalide improves the endothelium-dependent vasodilation in high-fat diet-fed ApoE < sup > -/- < /sup > mice via suppressing inflammation, endothelial necroptosis and apoptosis
This study aims to explore whether NBP is able to improve endothelium-dependent vasodilation in atherosclerosis and the underlying mechanisms. Male ApoE-/- mice were fed with a high-fat diet (HFD) for 9-16 weeks to establish a model of atherosclerosis. NBP were given to the mice after eating HFD for 6 weeks and atorvastatin served as a positive control. The endothelium-dependent vasodilation, the blood flow velocity, the atherosclerotic lesion area, the serum levels of lipids, inflammatory cytokines and necroptosis-relevant proteins (RIPK1, RIPK3 and MLKL), and the endothelial necroptosis and apoptosis within the aorta wer...

Effects of long-term regular oral aspirin combined with atorvastatin to prevent ischemic stroke on human gut microbiota
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings indicated that long-term regular oral aspirin and atorvastatin modulate the human gut microbiota. Taking these drugs may affect the preventive effect of ischemic stroke by changing the abundance of specific gut microbiota.PMID:37201625 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejphar.2023.175800

A systematic review of randomized clinical trials on the efficacy and safety of pitavastatin
Conclusion The FDA proven indications of pitavastatin are primary dyslipidemia and mixed dyslipidemia as adjunctive therapy to dietary changes to lower total cholesterol, LDL-C, apolipoprotein B (Apo B), triglycerides (TG), and to increase HDL-C. Pitavastatin might be suitable for subjects with diabetes, ACS (reduced revascularization), metabolic syndrome, CKD, HIV, and subjects with low levels of HDL-C. We highly recommend rational individualization for the selection of statin.PMID:35642121 | DOI:10.2174/2772432817666220531115314

Rutin protects hemorrhagic stroke development via supressing oxidative stress and inflammatory events in a zebrafish model
Eur J Pharmacol. 2022 Apr 22:174973. doi: 10.1016/j.ejphar.2022.174973. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIntracerebral haemorrhagic (ICH) stroke is a major cause of death and disability globally, with no proper treatment available so far. Rutin, a dietary flavonoid, has shown protection against cerebral ischemic stroke due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory attributes. However, the efficacy of rutin against ICH stroke remained unexplored. Therefore, in the current study, we investigated the effect of rutin in an ICH stroke zebrafish larva model. The larvae were exposed to atorvastatin (1.25 μM) in system water for indu...

Kanglexin, a new anthraquinone compound, attenuates lipid accumulation by activating the AMPK/SREBP-2/PCSK9/LDLR signalling pathway.
In this study, Sprague-Dawley rats were fed a high fat diet (HFD) for 5 weeks to establish a hyperlipidaemia model; then, the rats were orally administered KLX (20, 40, and 80 mg kg-1·d-1) or atorvastatin calcium (AT, 10 mg kg-1·d-1) once a day for 2 weeks. KLX had prominent effects on reducing blood lipids, hepatic lipid accumulation, body weight and the ratio of liver weight/body weight. Furthermore, KLXdramatically reduced the total cholesterol (TC) and triglyceride (TG) levels and lipid accumulation in a HepG2 cell model of dyslipidaemia induced by 1 mmol/L oleic acid (OA). KLX may decrease lipid levels by phosphoryl...
