Five-Year Follow-up of a Severe Case of Pertussis in Oregon, 2012.
We describe the medical course and sequelae of an infant's severe pertussis illness through age 5½ years. The child has failed to meet developmental milestones, requires substantial medical care, and bears the burdens of chronic lung disease, stroke, epilepsy, impaired neurodevelopment, and problems with vision. The medical and social burden of pertussis among infants too young to be vaccinated underscores the importance of tetanus toxoid, reduced diphtheria toxoid, and acellular pertussis vaccination during pregnancy. Depletion of CD11c+ Cells Does Not Influence Outcomes in Mice Subjected to Transient Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion
Conclusions: We show, for the first time, that CD11c+ cell depletion does not influence stroke volume in a mouse model of focal cerebral ischemia. Nevertheless, given the unspecificity of the CD11c surface antigen for DC, mouse models that allow a more selective depletion of DC are needed to investigate the role of DC in stroke pathophysiology.Neuroimmunomodulation

Human Muse Cells Reconstruct Neuronal Circuitry in Subacute Lacunar Stroke Model Basic Sciences
Conclusions—Transplantation at the delayed subacute phase showed muse cells differentiated into neural cells, facilitated neural reconstruction, improved functions, and displayed solid safety outcomes over prolonged graft maturation period, indicating their therapeutic potential for lacunar stroke.

Amelioration of experimental arthritis by stroke-induced immunosuppression is independent of Treg cell function
Conclusions MCAO ameliorates arthritis. The correlate of protection from arthritis is not the reduction of a particular pathogenic leucocyte subset or the preferential expansion or emergence of a protective cell population but the global reduction of leucocytes during arthritis.

Safety of diphtheria, tetanus, acellular pertussis and inactivated poliovirus (DTaP-IPV) vaccine.
CONCLUSIONS: In this safety surveillance study of more than 200,000 DTaP-IPV vaccine recipients, there was no evidence of increased risk for any of the pre-specified adverse events monitored. Continued surveillance of DTaP-IPV vaccine safety may be warranted to monitor for rare adverse events, such as Guillain-Barré syndrome. PMID: 24699471 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
