Neurological manifestations and pathogenic mechanisms of COVID-19
Neurol Res. 2022 Jan 6:1-12. doi: 10.1080/01616412.2021.2024732. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCoronavirus disease (COVID-19) arising from severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) viral infection has caused a worldwide pandemic, mainly owing to its highly virulent nature stemming from a very strong and highly efficacious binding to the angiotensin converting enzyme-2 (ACE2) receptor. As the pandemic developed, increasing numbers of COVID-19 patients with neurological manifestations were reported, strongly suggesting a causal relationship. Management of endovascular therapy for acute ischemic stroke amid the COVID-2019 pandemic: a multicenter survey in China
Conclusions: The volume of EVT for acute ischemic stroke severely declined after lockdown in China. Designating a specific area for COVID-19 screening, insufficient personal protection and understaffing may exacerbate the volume decline of EVT.PMID:34375569 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2021.1939236

Neurological complications of COVID-19: a systematic review.
CONCLUSIONS: Considering the possibility of neurological involvement in patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection can result in earlier diagnosis and treatment; otherwise permanent, irreversible sequelae and even death may follow. More comprehensive studies may indicate that until the end of the present pandemic, young adults with unexplained and unexpected stroke as well as patients with newly diagnosed Guillain-Barré syndrome should be tested for SARS-CoV-2 infection.
